Hiprom 1756HP-GPS

Description

Hiprom 1756HP-GPS

The 1756HP-GPS is a GPS time synchronization module for Allen‑Bradley ControlLogix 1756 rack PLC, designed and manufactured by Hiprom. This 1756HP-GPS receives L1 GPS satellite signals, delivers high-precision UTC time reference for SOE sequence of events, power substation protection and turbine control systems. It converts CST backplane time stamp into standard Gregorian wall clock time, eliminating time offset errors across distributed control racks. The HP represents Hiprom custom module, not original Rockwell standard part.

This 1756HP-GPS is powered by the 1756 backplane, equipped with local display and status LEDs for satellite lock, signal strength and fault diagnosis. It supports NMEA 0183 protocol, IRIG-B time output and backplane CST synchronization service. It can convert CST, UTC and calendar time formats via MSG instruction in Logix Designer. Built-in OCXO oscillator provides holdover time keeping for several hours when GPS antenna signal is lost. It requires an external active GPS antenna with SMA connector.

The 1756HP-GPS is widely deployed in power plant, substation, oil & gas DCS and SIS cabinets where precise time tagging for alarm and fault events is mandatory. This Hiprom specialty module is discontinued. Most available 1756HP-GPS units are tested surplus spare parts for SOE cabinet overhaul and emergency time sync replacement.
