Altus AL-2005

The AL-2005 is a real-time multitasking coprocessor module for Altus AL-2000 series PLC rack, working together with main CPU AL-2003 or AL-2004. This AL-2005 offloads heavy computing tasks from the primary processor, supporting C-language high-level application programming, complex math calculation and up to 100 PID control loops. It exchanges shared operand memory with the main controller via internal rack bus.

This AL-2005 uses RS232 serial port for program download with AL-3860 loader software. It supports custom protocol development and dedicated communication interface conversion, relieving main scan cycle burden for high-speed process control. It fits the same AL-2000 rack backplane, equipped with status LEDs for run, fault and communication diagnosis. It works with ALNET II RS485 multi-master network at 1Mbps for distributed control architecture.

The AL-2005 is widely deployed in Brazilian oil refineries, power plants and Petrobras process control systems for load shedding, power factor regulation and advanced process calculation. This classic AL-2000 series is discontinued by Altus. Most available AL-2005 units are tested surplus spare parts for legacy DCS cabinet overhaul and emergency coprocessor replacement. Compatibility with paired AL-2004 main CPU must be verified before replacement.
