Description
ALLEN BRADLEY 100-D420
Overview
ALLEN BRADLEY 100-D420 is a 3-pole IEC contactor from Rockwell Allen‑Bradley Bulletin 100‑D series, rated 420A AC‑3, designed for heavy motor and distribution load switching. ALLEN BRADLEY 100-D420 is discontinued legacy hardware, widely supplied as exchange spare for industrial, water treatment and marine low voltage MCC cabinet overhaul. The full ordering suffix defines coil voltage and auxiliary contact configuration, common variants are 100-D420EA00 (no auxiliary contacts) and 100-D420ED11 (1NO+1NC auxiliary).
Features
ALLEN BRADLEY 100-D420 supports AC‑3 motor duty and AC‑1 resistive load duty for large pumps, fans and feeder circuits. It uses an electronic wide-range coil version, accepting AC 42–500V and DC 48–255V control supply, which reduces coil spare part inventory for mixed secondary control systems. ALLEN BRADLEY 100-D420 supports add-on auxiliary contact blocks, mechanical interlock modules and surge suppressors. The main contact replacement kit is 100-DCE-420 for on-site repair without replacing the whole contactor frame. ALLEN BRADLEY 100-D420 adopts screw-type main terminals for cable lug connection, suitable for high-current power wiring. It complies with IEC 60947-4-1, UL and CSA standards. The successor replacement model is Allen‑Bradley 100-E400 series contactor.
Specs
ALLEN BRADLEY 100-D420 Rated AC‑3 current: 420A. Pole: 3-pole. Ue max: 690V AC. Coil type: electronic wide voltage coil. Auxiliary contacts: determined by suffix code. Accessories: 100-DCE-420 contact kit, terminal lugs, interlock, surge suppressor. Mounting: panel mount. ALLEN BRADLEY 100-D420 is widely supplied as service replacement spare for heavy-duty motor control and distribution circuits.
Principle
ALLEN BRADLEY 100-D420 closes the three main power contacts when the control coil is energized and conducts power to the motor or load. When the coil de-energizes, spring force separates the main contacts. Optional auxiliary contacts of ALLEN BRADLEY 100-D420 feed running status and feedback signals to PLC, protection relays and SCADA for sequence-of-event logging. The electronic coil circuit stabilizes pull-in and holding performance and improves immunity against voltage fluctuation on control circuits.
Applications
ALLEN BRADLEY 100-D420 is deployed for large pump, fan, compressor, main feeder and bus switching control in power plants, water treatment, chemical plants and marine low voltage switchgear. It is selected for spare inventory and cabinet retrofit projects requiring high-current IEC contactor with wide-range coil compatibility.
