Description

CONTROL TECHNIQUES UD-90A ISS5 3130-0431/7004-0237 Product Description

Overview

CONTROL TECHNIQUES UD-90A ISS5 is a legacy digital DC drive of the Control Techniques Mentor II series. 3130-0431 and 7004-0237 are internal board and revision identifiers for this unit. This thyristor-based DC drive provides precise armature and field control for DC motors, widely stocked as MRO spare parts for metal rolling, printing, paper and heavy machinery production lines. This model is discontinued.

Features

CONTROL TECHNIQUES UD-90A ISS5 supports closed-loop speed regulation with tachogenerator or encoder feedback, and open-loop armature voltage control. It offers adjustable current loop, speed loop PI parameters and ramp settings for flexible dynamic response tuning. Integrated functions include current limit, field weakening, armature voltage limitation, stall detection and comprehensive fault diagnostics. It accepts analog speed reference 0–10 V / 4–20 mA and digital enable/interlock signals. The front keypad and display show speed, current, voltage and fault codes for commissioning and troubleshooting. It is equipped with built-in field supply and can be matched with shunt-wound DC motors. ISS5 indicates the software firmware revision level.

Specs

Principle

CONTROL TECHNIQUES UD-90A ISS5 controls the firing angle of the thyristor bridge to adjust the average DC voltage supplied to the motor armature. The speed loop compares the command reference with actual speed feedback, then adjusts the armature current setpoint. The field regulator maintains constant field excitation or executes field weakening for high-speed operation. When abnormal conditions are detected, the drive blocks thyristor firing, triggers an alarm and shuts down the motor to avoid damage.

Applications

CONTROL TECHNIQUES UD-90A ISS5 is used for high-performance DC motor speed control. Typical applications include rolling mills, paper machines, printing presses, extruders, large hoisting equipment and legacy process automation lines. It serves as replacement spare for existing Mentor II DC drive systems.
