ABB FENA-11 Ethernet Adapter Module

Overview

The ABB FENA-11 is a single-port Ethernet fieldbus adapter module for ABB variable frequency drives. The ABB FENA-11 enables the drive to connect to industrial Ethernet networks and supports multiple communication protocols including PROFINET IO, EtherNet/IP and Modbus TCP. The protocol is selected by parameter setting inside the matched drive unit. The ABB FENA-11 transmits start, stop, speed reference and fault status data between the drive and upper control systems such as PLC and DCS. It is widely used as spare communication accessory for ABB ACS355, ACS880, ACS580, ACSM1, ACS850 and ACQ810 series inverters.

Features

The ABB FENA-11 supports 10 Mbps and 100 Mbps auto-negotiation Ethernet communication. It provides ABB Drives profile, PROFIdrive profile and transparent data modes for flexible control data mapping. The ABB FENA-11 integrates LED indicators for network status, module running state and fault diagnosis. It supports hot-swap installation on the drive option slot and is powered by the frequency converter. The ABB FENA-11 carries EMC suppression design and follows the original connector outline for direct replacement.

Principle

The ABB FENA-11 exchanges process data between the drive internal bus and the Ethernet network. It receives control commands and setpoint values from the host controller, then forwards the data to the drive control board. Meanwhile, it uploads actual speed, current, voltage and fault information back to the PLC or SCADA platform. The ABB FENA-11 runs communication self-check continuously and reports network loss or module failure to the drive alarm system.

Applications

The ABB FENA-11 is used for network communication assembly of ABB low voltage inverters in chemical, water treatment and power plant automation systems. It serves real-time control and data collection for pump, fan, conveyor and large motor drive feeders. The ABB FENA-11 applies to spare stock and emergency repair of existing ABB drive communication assemblies. It also supports drive networking transformation and communication protocol upgrade projects.
