Description
PEPPERL+FUCHS KFD0-HMS-16
Overview
PEPPERL+FUCHS KFD0-HMS-16 is the HART multiplexer slave (secondary) module from the Pepperl+Fuchs K-System HART MUX family. This 16-channel slave module works exclusively with the KFD2-HMM-16 HART multiplexer master to collect HART digital data from 4–20 mA HART field transmitters while leaving the analog 4–20 mA control signal intact for the DCS/PLC. It is widely supplied as exchange spare for process control cabinet, DCS marshalling panel and SIS loop overhaul and replacement.
Features
PEPPERL+FUCHS KFD0-HMS-16 supports HART protocol revision 5 through 7. It extracts superimposed HART digital information from each analog loop without interfering with the 4–20 mA control value. One master KFD2-HMM-16 can connect up to 15 pieces of KFD0-HMS-16 slave modules, expanding the total capacity for multi-drop HART instrumentation. The slave receives power from the master via the 14-pin ribbon cable and requires no separate auxiliary supply.
PEPPERL+FUCHS KFD0-HMS-16 uses a rotary address switch for station addressing from 1 to 15. It connects to termination boards through a 26-pin ribbon cable for field instrument wiring. HART device diagnostics, tag information, process variables and fault status can be retrieved via supporting DTM software. The module achieves SIL 3 capability according to IEC 61508 and complies with ATEX and EMC requirements for industrial process environments.
Specs
PEPPERL+FUCHS KFD0-HMS-16Platform: Pepperl+Fuchs K-System HART multiplexer system Type: HART multiplexer slave / secondary module Catalog number: KFD0-HMS-16 Channel count: 16 HART channels HART version: HART 5, 6, 7 Power supply: powered by KFD2-HMM-16 master via 14-pin flat cable, no external power Address setting: rotary switch, address 1–15 Connection: 14-pin master bus, 26-pin to termination board Safety rating: SIL 3 (IEC 61508) Mounting: DIN TH35 rail, Power Rail compatible Protection rating: IP20 This is not an isolator, intrinsic safety barrier or transmitter; it is the expansion slave module for the HART multiplexer system. PEPPERL+FUCHS KFD0-HMS-16 is widely supplied as service replacement spare for multi-channel HART communication expansion failure.
Principle
PEPPERL+FUCHS KFD0-HMS-16 taps each 4–20 mA loop and demodulates the HART frequency-shift-keyed digital signal riding on the analog current. The analog 4–20 mA signal passes straight through to the control system without disruption. The collected HART data is forwarded to the KFD2-HMM-16 master over the internal ribbon bus. The master then relays all HART device data to the host asset management system over RS-485.
Applications
PEPPERL+FUCHS KFD0-HMS-16 is deployed for pressure, temperature, flow and level HART transmitters in refineries, chemical plants, oil & gas and power generation facilities. It is selected for spare inventory and marshalling cabinet retrofit projects for existing Pepperl+Fuchs HART multiplexer systems.
