Description
National Instruments PCI-6071E
Overview
National Instruments PCI-6071E is a legacy E‑Series multifunction DAQ (MIO) board for standard PCI slot, 12‑bit, maximum sampling rate 1.25 MS/s. National Instruments PCI-6071E is equipped with 64 analog input channels, 2 analog output channels, 8 TTL digital I/O lines and two 24‑bit counter/timers, it uses DAQ‑STC timing controller and SCSI external connector for signal wiring. National Instruments PCI-6071E is end‑of‑life discontinued hardware, widely supplied as exchange spare for old LabVIEW test benches, laboratory measurement cabinets and industrial data acquisition systems overhaul.
Features
National Instruments PCI-6071E supports software-selectable analog input configuration: 64 single-ended channels or 32 differential channels, which improves noise rejection for low-level sensor signals. It has a ±10V bipolar input range and hardware digital triggering for synchronized acquisition start, pause and reference capture. National Instruments PCI-6071E integrates two 12‑bit analog output channels for generating analog setpoint, excitation signal and waveform output to actuators and analogue instruments. The 8-channel 5V TTL digital I/O can read limit switches and drive relay interlock logic. Two independent 24‑bit counter/timers support encoder reading, pulse width measurement, frequency counting and pulse generation. National Instruments PCI-6071E is compatible with LabVIEW, Measurement Studio, TestStand and supports both Traditional NI‑DAQ and NI‑DAQmx drivers, mostly limited to older 32‑bit Windows operating systems. It can be extended with SCXI or SCC signal conditioning accessories for thermocouple, RTD, strain gauge and high‑voltage sensor measurement.
Specs
National Instruments PCI-6071E Bus interface: PCI. Analog input: 12‑bit, 1.25 MS/s, 64 SE / 32 DIFF, ±10V. Analog output: 2 ch, 12‑bit. Digital I/O: 8 lines, 5V TTL. Counter/timer: 2 × 24‑bit. Connector: SCSI‑2 type. Timing chip: DAQ‑STC. Driver: NI‑DAQmx / Legacy NI‑DAQ. National Instruments PCI-6071E is widely supplied as service replacement spare for legacy test system maintenance.
Principle
National Instruments PCI-6071E receives analog sensor voltage signals through the SCSI terminal block, multiplexes the selected channel and converts analog voltage to digital value via the on-board ADC under DAQ‑STC hardware timing control. The acquired samples are transferred to PC memory through PCI bus for LabVIEW or host software processing, logging and display. When the application writes analog output, digital output or counter commands, the board converts digital values back to analog voltage or TTL pulse signals. The hardware trigger function of National Instruments PCI-6071E allows the acquisition to be synchronized with external events, avoiding software polling delay. Built‑in self‑diagnosis and watchdog detect communication and timing anomaly.
Applications
National Instruments PCI-6071E is deployed in university laboratories, automotive component test benches, aerospace verification stations, production line data logging and general R&D measurement systems. It is selected for spare inventory and system repair projects for existing E‑Series DAQ platforms. Modern replacement series are NI M‑Series and X‑Series PCIe / USB DAQ cards.
