Red Lion N-Tron 508FXE2-A-SC-40 is an advanced managed industrial Fast Ethernet switch from the N-Tron 500 series, with six 10/100BaseTX copper ports and two single-mode 100BaseFX SC fiber uplink ports rated for 40km transmission distance. Red Lion N-Tron 508FXE2-A-SC-40 supports -A advanced firmware set including VLAN, QoS, IGMP snooping and N-View remote network monitoring, built for harsh industrial DIN-rail cabinet mounting. Red Lion N-Tron 508FXE2-A-SC-40 is end-of-life legacy hardware, widely supplied as exchange spare for process, oil & gas and substation control network maintenance.

Features

Red Lion N-Tron 508FXE2-A-SC-40 adopts store-and-forward switching architecture with low typical latency of 2.1μs and 4,000 MAC address table capacity, backplane throughput up to 2.6Gb/s. The six RJ45 copper ports support auto-negotiation, auto-MDIX, 10/100 speed and duplex detection. Red Lion N-Tron 508FXE2-A-SC-40 has two SC single-mode fiber ports for long-distance, noise-immune network trunking, isolating control traffic from electrical noise and ground potential differences. The -A advanced firmware enables VLAN tagging, QoS priority queuing, IGMP multicast management, port mirroring and programmable MAC aging time. It supports N-View for remote health monitoring, port status, error counters and fault alert reporting. Red Lion N-Tron 508FXE2-A-SC-40 includes redundant 10–30VDC power inputs, ESD and surge protection on all ports, wide operating temperature range -40°C to 85°C. Front bi-color LEDs indicate power, link, speed, activity and duplex status for fast local diagnosis. It supports hot swap on DIN rail and IP20 enclosure for cabinet installation.

Principle

Red Lion N-Tron 508FXE2-A-SC-40 receives Ethernet frames on copper or fiber ports, validates frame integrity and forwards packets to the correct destination port based on MAC address table. The fiber uplink converts electrical signals to optical light for long-distance transmission, resisting EMI and ground loop interference common in industrial sites. The advanced firmware of Red Lion N-Tron 508FXE2-A-SC-40 segregates traffic via VLAN, prioritizes safety and control packets by QoS, and manages multicast streams with IGMP snooping to reduce network load. When link loss, fiber break or port error is detected, N-View reports fault events to the host SCADA or monitoring station. Redundant power inputs prevent network outage on single supply failure.
