Description

Cutler-Hammer (Eaton) 2087A40G05

Overview

Cutler-Hammer 2087A40G05 is a style-numbered internal IGBT inverter power board for legacy Eaton Cutler-Hammer industrial AC drive platforms. Cutler-Hammer 2087A40G05 converts the common DC bus voltage into three-phase PWM variable frequency AC output to drive induction and servo motors. Cutler-Hammer 2087A40G05 is a field replacement service spare, not a standalone drive unit, widely stocked for drive cabinet overhaul and breakdown maintenance.

Features

Cutler-Hammer 2087A40G05 integrates IGBT power devices, gate drive circuitry, phase current sensors and on-board temperature sensing components. It receives PWM switching commands from the drive control board and generates high-frequency sinusoidal PWM output for motor torque and speed regulation. Cutler-Hammer 2087A40G05 supports real-time phase current sampling for closed-loop current control and fast fault detection including overcurrent, short circuit, ground fault and IGBT over-temperature. It communicates fault status, current feedback and thermal data back to the main control board for fault buffering and trace logging. Cutler-Hammer 2087A40G05 is designed for forced air cooling inside the drive enclosure, IP20 construction, and must be matched with the corresponding drive control board, bus capacitors, fan assembly and busbar connections. It is a discontinued OEM style part with limited replacement availability.

Specs

Cutler-Hammer 2087A40G05 is matched to a specific frame and voltage class of Cutler-Hammer / Eaton variable frequency drive. It operates from stabilized DC link supplied by the drive rectifier section. The current rating and power rating are defined by the original drive frame this board belongs to. It requires separate 24V DC auxiliary supply for the gate drive and monitoring circuits. This style number is a service replacement assembly and does not appear in standard Eaton front catalog listings. Cutler-Hammer 2087A40G05 is widely supplied as exchange spare for process pump, fan and conveyor drive repair.

Principle

Cutler-Hammer 2087A40G05 takes DC voltage from the drive’s rectifier or line module. The gate drive logic switches the IGBTs according to PWM signals from the control board to create variable voltage and variable frequency three-phase AC for the motor. During motor braking, regenerative DC power flows back onto the DC bus. The current sensors on Cutler-Hammer 2087A40G05 continuously monitor each phase current for protection and regulation. When over-temperature, IGBT short, ground fault or overcurrent is detected, the gate drive path immediately disables the IGBTs and sends fault codes to the drive controller to prevent secondary hardware damage.

Applications

Cutler-Hammer 2087A40G05 is used as replacement power inverter board for legacy Cutler-Hammer variable frequency drives deployed on industrial pumps, fans, conveyors, extruders and process machinery. It is selected for spare inventory and emergency repair projects when the original power stage fails due to power surge, overload, aging or contamination. It is the core power conversion assembly inside the compatible Cutler-Hammer drive system.
