XYCOM 4153B (also known as PM4153/B) is a ruggedized industrial operation workstation from the 4000 series of XYCOM (now part of Schneider Electric), commonly referred to as "Husky 386". It is an integrated operator terminal for demanding industrial environments, featuring CRT display, membrane buttons, industrial-grade host, and a wealth of I/O, specifically designed for early production lines, machines, process control, and harsh conditions, providing stable human-computer interaction, data monitoring, and equipment control capabilities.

Equipped with Intel 386 processor (early industrial standard), integrated solid-state storage (DiskOnChip) / hard disk, fanless rugged design, shock resistance, impact resistance, low power consumption, supports MS-DOS/Windows 3.x/95 and other early industrial systems, capable of 24-hour continuous operation, compatible with old industrial software and protocols.

Rich industrial I/O, compatible with traditional equipment

Standard RS-232/422/485 serial ports, parallel ports, XVME bus interface, keyboard / mouse interface, VGA output, audio port, can be directly connected to PLC, DCS, instruments, printers, VME bus controller, supports traditional industrial protocols such as Modbus, DF1, ASCII, seamlessly connecting legacy control systems.

COM1: Standard RS-232 (DB9), connects PLC, instruments, serial port printers;

XVME bus interface

VIII. Installation and Commissioning Key Points Installation steps

Confirm the cabinet opening / rack dimensions (483×356mm), with a load-bearing capacity meeting the standard (≥40kg);

When the power is off, push the 4153B into the rack / embed it in the panel, and secure it with screws;

Connect the 24V DC power supply, serial cable, XVME bus, keyboard and mouse (optional), ensuring the wiring is firm and the grounding is reliable;

Power on and start the machine, enter the MS-DOS/Windows system, configure the serial port parameters (baud rate / parity bit), communication protocol, and display resolution;

Install industrial configuration software (such as Intouch, Fix) or custom programs to interface with the PLC/DCS system.

Debugging precautions

Install the device away from strong heat sources, strong vibration sources, and strong electromagnetic interference sources (frequency converters / motors);

Avoid prolonged high-brightness static display on the CRT screen to prevent screen burn-in;

X. Troubleshooting Guide

No display upon startup, power indicator light not on

Check if the 24V DC power supply is normal, if the positive and negative poles are connected reversely, and if the fuse is blown;

Confirm that the power connection is firm and the grounding is reliable, replace the power module for testing;

Check the motherboard for faults, contact the after-sales service for repair.

CRT screen no display / screen flickering / flashing

Adjust the brightness / contrast knob, check the CRT power supply and signal lines;

Check the graphics card / motherboard for faults, reconnect or replace the graphics card module;

CRT aging and damage, replace the CRT display unit.

Membrane buttons no response / malfunction

Check if the connection of the button leads is firm, without loosening / oxidation;

Clean the oil stains / dust on the button surface and retest;

Matrix of the membrane buttons is damaged, replace the membrane buttons unit.

Serial / XVME communication abnormal

Check if the wiring is correct, if the shielding grounding is good, and if the cables are intact;

Confirm that the communication parameters (baud rate / address / protocol) are consistent with the slave station;

Check if the interface module is damaged, and replace the serial / XVME interface board.
