Principle

The SQUARE D 8502 PJ3.22 operates as an electromagnetic contactor. When the coil is energized, the armature pulls in and closes the main power contacts to supply the load. When coil power is removed, the return spring opens the main contacts. It works together with thermal overload relays to provide motor overload protection.
