Overview

The SCHMERSAL BNS 33-12Z is a reed-type non-contact magnetic safety sensor from Schmersal BNS33 series, part number 101109211. It is designed for guard door safety monitoring. The contact configuration is 1 NO + 2 NC. It works with a matching actuator magnet and must be paired with Schmersal safety evaluation units such as SRB / AES series to achieve safety category. It is low-coded per EN ISO 14119, suitable for concealed installation inside guards. No mechanical contact, so there is no wear and long service life.

The SCHMERSAL BNS 33-12Z has glass-fibre reinforced thermoplastic housing, compact size 88 × 25 × 13 mm.BNS 33-12Z tolerates lateral misalignment and is insensitive to dust and contamination. Contact layout: 1 normally open, 2 normally closed reed contacts. No LED indicator (G suffix version BNS 33-12ZG has LED). Requires a dedicated safety relay / evaluation unit for safe guard monitoring. Can be hidden mounted inside profiles or guard frames.

Principle

When the guard door is closed, the mating actuator magnet approaches the SCHMERSAL BNS 33-12Z. The magnetic field triggers the reed contacts to change state. The safety evaluation unit continuously monitors the NC safety circuits. If the door is opened and the magnet moves away, the safety contacts open and the safety relay cuts off the hazardous power circuit.
