Description

BASLER ELECTRIC SCP-250-G-60 VAR Power Factor Controller

Overview

The BASLER ELECTRIC SCP-250-G-60 is a microprocessor-based VAR and power factor controller belonging to the SCP-250 series, designed for generator reactive power management. The BASLER ELECTRIC SCP-250-G-60 continuously monitors voltage, current and power factor of synchronous generators, and sends adjustment signals to the matched AVR excitation regulator to stabilize target power factor or reactive power output. It is widely used for generator paralleling, grid-connected gensets and isolated bus power systems, and is a common spare unit for power station and marine generator control cabinets.

Features

The BASLER ELECTRIC SCP-250-G-60 supports adjustable VAR and power factor setpoints, with independent response delay and stability parameters to prevent hunting during excitation adjustment. It accepts 1A or 5A CT secondary current input and voltage signal from PT, and provides high-precision measurement for reactive power calculation. The BASLER ELECTRIC SCP-250-G-60 is equipped with LED status indicators for running state, alarm and limit action, and carries surge protection and EMC filtering for switchboard environments. It uses standard panel mounting and follows the original wiring pinout for direct replacement in the same generator control loop. The suffix G stands for generator application, 60 means 60Hz nominal frequency.

Specs

Device Type: Generator VAR / Power Factor Controller Model: BASLER ELECTRIC SCP-250-G-60 Series: SCP-250 Applicable Equipment: Synchronous generator, matched with AVR excitation regulator Nominal Frequency: 60 Hz CT Input: 1 A / 5 A Control Output: Analog signal to AVR Diagnosis: LED status indication Mounting: Standard panel cutout Protection Grade: IP40 front panel Application: Generator paralleling control, marine genset, isolated power plant, industrial standby power system

Principle

The BASLER ELECTRIC SCP-250-G-60 samples voltage and current signals from the generator PT and CT. The internal processor calculates actual power factor and reactive power, compares measured values with the preset target value. If the reactive power deviates from the setpoint, it outputs correction signal to the excitation regulator to adjust generator field current, thereby changing the reactive power output. The BASLER ELECTRIC SCP-250-G-60 includes overexcitation and underexcitation limit logic to protect the generator and excitation system from operating beyond safe boundaries.

Applications

The BASLER ELECTRIC SCP-250-G-60 is used for automatic reactive power control of synchronous generators in power plants, offshore platforms and marine main power systems. It serves stable power factor control for multiple generators running in parallel. The BASLER ELECTRIC SCP-250-G-60 applies to spare stock and emergency repair of existing Basler generator excitation control assemblies. It also supports genset control cabinet renovation and reactive power control loop upgrade projects.
