WOODWARD PSG F8510-301 Hydraulic Governor

WOODWARD PSG F8510-301 PSG series self-contained hydraulic governor for diesel and gas engine speed control generator set and marine engine spare replacement.

Description

WOODWARD PSG F8510-301 Hydraulic Governor

Overview

The WOODWARD PSG F8510-301 is a self-contained hydraulic governor from the Woodward PSG series, designed for mechanical speed regulation of reciprocating diesel and gas engines. The WOODWARD PSG F8510-301 uses flyweight speed sensing and hydraulic amplification to adjust the fuel rack position, stabilizing engine speed under varying load conditions. It is widely stocked as spare governor unit for generator sets, gas compressors and marine propulsion engines, suitable for industrial and marine environments where robust mechanical control is required. The WOODWARD PSG F8510-301 is a legacy mechanical governor without electronic control circuits, relying entirely on hydraulic and mechanical components for speed governing.

Features

The WOODWARD PSG F8510-301 integrates flyweight assembly, hydraulic pilot valve, power piston and oil reservoir in one compact housing. It provides stable isochronous or droop speed control according to on-site configuration. The WOODWARD PSG F8510-301 supports manual speed adjustment and synchronizing function for paralleling generator applications. It has built-in oil pressure compensation and damping to prevent hunting and speed oscillation during load changes. The WOODWARD PSG F8510-301 is built to withstand vibration and temperature fluctuation of engine compartments, with mechanical linkage output to the fuel actuator. All internal parts are precision machined and can be replaced individually during overhaul, and the WOODWARD PSG F8510-301 follows standard mounting and linkage dimensions for direct replacement of original PSG governors.

Specs

Device Type: Hydraulic Speed Governor Model: WOODWARD PSG F8510-301 Series: PSG Control Type: Mechanical hydraulic governor Regulation Mode: Droop / Isochronous adjustable Actuation: Mechanical linkage output to fuel rack Lubrication: Internal oil sump Application: Reciprocating diesel engine, gas engine generator set, compressor, marine engine Operating Temperature: -20°C ~ +70°C Protection Grade: IP20 when installed inside engine enclosure

Principle

The WOODWARD PSG F8510-301 receives engine speed signal from the drive shaft to rotate the flyweight assembly. The centrifugal force of flyweights changes with speed, moving the pilot valve to control hydraulic oil flow into the power piston. The power piston drives the fuel linkage to increase or decrease fuel supply. When engine speed rises above setpoint, the governor reduces fuel; when speed drops, fuel is increased. Damping and feedback mechanisms suppress unstable speed swing. The WOODWARD PSG F8510-301 maintains steady engine speed automatically without external electronic signals.

Applications

The WOODWARD PSG F8510-301 is installed on stationary generator engines, gas compressors and marine reciprocating engines to provide mechanical speed governing. It is commonly used for equipment that requires simple, reliable speed control without electronic governors. The WOODWARD PSG F8510-301 is stocked as spare for emergency replacement and scheduled overhaul of legacy engine control systems. It also supports governor calibration, linkage adjustment and engine retrofitting projects.
