GE Epoch 4 Portable Ultrasonic Flaw Detector Brief Introduction

GE Epoch 4 is a field-oriented industrial ultrasonic flaw detector under GE Panametrics NDT product line. It utilizes ultrasonic pulse echo technology to detect internal cracks, inclusions, pores and other defects inside metal workpieces, serving flaw inspection for equipment quality detection and regular safety assessment.

Description

  • Core Detection Principle and Electrical Performance

The instrument works by transmitting high-frequency ultrasonic pulses into tested materials via matched ultrasonic probes. Internal structural defects reflect echo signals, and the internal high-speed digital signal processing system captures, filters and analyzes waveform data to locate defect depth, size and horizontal position accurately. Built-in multi-stage digital gain adjustment, DAC/TCG curve compensation functions effectively offset signal attenuation caused by thick workpieces and material grain structure. It supports multiple ultrasonic inspection modes including pulse-echo, through-transmission and pitch-catch, with high sampling rate to restore complete A-scan waveform. Built-in large-capacity storage saves inspection waveforms, testing parameters and detection reports, and stored data will not be lost after power outage. Integrated anti-surge circuit protects internal core chips from instantaneous voltage impact during field wired connection. All electronic components pass high-low temperature aging screening to keep stable detection precision during long-time continuous field use.

  • Structural Design and Environmental Adaptability

The Epoch 4 adopts lightweight rugged handheld casing with shock resistance, splash-proof and dustproof properties, adapting to on-site inspection scenarios such as workshops, pipeline yards, outdoor equipment frames and construction sites. The circuit board is covered with conformal coating to resist damp air, dust and weak corrosive gas in chemical plants, thermal power stations, pressure vessel manufacturing factories and metallurgical workshops. The equipment complies with industrial EMC specifications and can shield electromagnetic interference generated by surrounding inverters, motors and high-power power distribution equipment. Equipped with high-brightness color LCD screen with backlight, the waveform can be clearly identified under strong sunlight and dark working environments. Physical shortcut keys simplify parameter adjustment operations, and standard universal probe interface supports quick plugging of various conventional ultrasonic probes. The whole machine has excellent anti-vibration and anti-drop performance to cope with rough field use conditions.

  • Matched Accessories and Application Scenarios

Compatible with full series Panametrics straight probes, angle probes, dual-element probes and wedge blocks. Widely used in pressure vessel weld flaw detection, boiler pipeline internal defect inspection, oil and gas pipeline wall crack scanning, aerospace component quality testing, steel structural component flaw inspection and ship hull periodic nondestructive testing. It is essential testing equipment for factory incoming inspection, finished product quality inspection and in-service equipment safety periodic inspection. When old flaw detectors have waveform distortion, function failure and data recording abnormality, Epoch 4 can replace old equipment to ensure the progress and accuracy of on-site nondestructive flaw detection work.

  • Operational Stability and Maintenance Advantages

Each Epoch 4 unit completes ultrasonic calibration, overall function testing and long-term powered aging inspection before factory delivery to guarantee stable and consistent detection performance among batches. Built-in fault self-check function can feed back hardware abnormity prompts for quick troubleshooting by maintenance staff. Daily maintenance only needs regular inspection of probe cables, housing integrity and battery health status with low maintenance cost and technical threshold. Original GE flaw detectors avoid missing detection and misjudgment risks caused by low-cost imitation equipment, improving the reliability of industrial equipment safety evaluation data. Shockproof sealed packaging supports long-term spare inventory storage, and the overall detection performance will not have obvious attenuation under dry constant-temperature storage environment.
