GE SF250 Spectra RMS Molded Case Circuit Breaker Frame Product Description
Description
GE SF250 Spectra RMS Molded Case Circuit Breaker Frame Product Description
Overview
GE SF250 is the Spectra RMS series 250A frame molded case circuit breaker from General Electric, used for main and branch protection in MCC, power distribution cabinets and industrial power skids. This GE SF250 is the 250 amp frame platform, matched with interchangeable SRPF250Axx rating plugs to set long-time trip current, supporting electronic trip, adjustable instantaneous and short-time delay functions, widely used for new MCC build, retrofit and spare‑part replacement of GE Spectra RMS breaker systems.
Features
GE SF250 adopts electronic RMS sensing trip unit, measuring true RMS current, immune to waveform distortion and harmonic interference. This GE SF250 breaker supports interchangeable rating plug design; users can swap SRPF250Axx plugs on the same SF250 frame to change amp rating without replacing the whole breaker. GE SF250 supports adjustable long time, short time and instantaneous trip parameters, with optional ground fault protection module. It is suitable for reverse feed application, and can be equipped with auxiliary switch, alarm switch, shunt trip and undervoltage release accessories. It supports front and rear connection options, and complies with UL 489, IEC 60947‑2 standards. The SF250 frame is a legacy GE distribution spare, now part of ABB after acquisition.

Principle
GE SF250 samples three-phase line current via internal CT, the electronic trip unit calculates RMS current value and executes overload, short time and instantaneous protection logic. The rating plug defines the continuous current setting of the breaker. When current exceeds the selected trip curve threshold, the trip mechanism releases and contacts open to cut off the power circuit. Auxiliary and alarm contacts send breaker ON/OFF/trip status signals to PLC and HMI.
Applications
GE SF250 is deployed in motor control centers, factory main distribution cabinets, water & wastewater power skids, compressor and fan feeder circuits. This GE Spectra RMS SF250 breaker provides overcurrent, short circuit and optional ground fault protection for three-phase power loads. SF250 fits MCC feeder overhaul and spare replacement of GE Spectra RMS 250A frame breakers.
Installation & Maintenance Notes
Follow official GE Spectra RMS manual during installation of GE SF250. Confirm the SRPF250Axx rating plug matches the load FLA. Keep proper torque on line and load terminals. Back up trip curve settings before replacement. After replacement, verify auxiliary/alarm contact wiring and shunt/UVT function if fitted. Confirm exact part number SF250 frame; SE150 and SG400 frames have different current capacity and cannot be substituted directly.
