GE 8500 Portable Transit-Time Ultrasonic Liquid Flow Meter

GE 8500 is a handheld clamp-on ultrasonic flow detector developed by GE Panametrics. It adopts non-intrusive measurement to inspect liquid flow rates for on-site calibration, pipeline troubleshooting and temporary flow monitoring in industrial piping networks.

Description

GE 8500 belongs to the classic portable ultrasonic flow measurement product lineup of Panametrics, designed for field mobile flow verification work instead of fixed online transmitters such as XMT868 and UTX878. It is equipped with matched clamp-on transducers including M2LRZ, M9LW and supporting original accessories such as 25998 coupling grease, P1392 mounting clamps and 710-1247 signal cables, forming a complete portable flow inspection solution for field engineers.
The core measurement principle follows the standard transit-time ultrasonic algorithm. The host calculates fluid velocity and cumulative flow by capturing the time difference of ultrasonic signals traveling upstream and downstream through the pipeline medium. Built-in high-speed signal processing circuit effectively filters clutter noise generated by pipeline vibration and field electrical equipment, realizing stable echo acquisition even on scaled, thick-wall and aged industrial water pipelines. The built-in large-capacity rechargeable battery supports long-time field continuous operation without external power supply, adapting to field patrol inspection in outdoor pipe racks, pump rooms and scattered workshop pipelines.
The handheld main unit is fitted with an industrial backlit LCD display and physical operation buttons, supporting on-site parameter configuration of pipe material, pipe diameter, medium type and transducer frequency. Real-time instantaneous flow, total flow, flow velocity and signal strength data can be directly displayed locally for staff to read data quickly. The internal memory can store historical measurement records for later data export and report sorting, facilitating meter verification and energy balance audit work for enterprises.
All matched transducers adopt external clamping installation mode, no pipe cutting, drilling or system shutdown is required during testing, which will not interfere with the normal continuous production process. The equipment shell has dustproof and splash-proof structure to cope with complex outdoor industrial environments. The whole machine has no internal mechanical moving parts, with low failure rate and simple maintenance work. Operators only need to apply GE 25998 couplant evenly between the probe and the pipe wall during use to guarantee acoustic coupling effect and accurate measurement data.
Each GE 8500 portable flow meter undergoes factory flow bench calibration and signal aging testing before delivery, with traceable calibration records to meet the inspection requirements of industrial metering departments. It is widely used for regular verification of fixed online flow meters, leakage troubleshooting of water supply pipe networks, flow testing of thermal power circulating water pipelines and temporary flow monitoring of chemical process liquid pipelines. Daily maintenance only includes regular battery charging, cleaning the probe surface and inspecting cable integrity, greatly improving the convenience of field instrument maintenance and calibration work.
