GE USL-42 is an insertion type retractable ultrasonic gas sensor under GE Panametrics, matched with XMT868 series gas flow transmitters. It supports hot tapping installation without system shutdown, stable measurement for flare gas, natural gas and various industrial process gas pipelines.
Description
GE USL-42 belongs to the professional insertion ultrasonic transducer series for gas medium measurement developed by Baker Hughes GE Panametrics. The model USL-42 stands for standard insertion structure with fixed acoustic frequency and 42mm overall mounting assembly dimension, specially designed for gas flow detection under high-pressure, dusty and slightly corrosive working conditions in petrochemical and gas industry. It cooperates with DigitalFlow XMT868i intrinsically safe hosts to build inline gas flow metering systems for flare stack gas, fuel gas, compressed process gas and pipeline natural gas.
The probe body wetted section is manufactured with corrosion-resistant titanium alloy material, possessing outstanding resistance to hydrogen sulfide, hydrocarbon volatiles and tiny solid dust particles carried in flare gas. The built-in piezoelectric wafer is optimized for gas acoustic impedance characteristics, which effectively reduces ultrasonic signal attenuation during propagation in low-density gas media and ensures stable echo feedback even under turbulent gas flow field conditions. Internal damping and acoustic matching layers are precisely calibrated to match the signal circuit of GE original flow transmitters, avoiding waveform distortion and flow value jumping.
The core highlight of USL-42 is the integrated retractable mechanical structure with a shut-off valve assembly. Operators can execute hot tapping installation, probe pulling out for maintenance, cleaning or replacement under full pipeline operating pressure without cutting off gas supply or stopping production. This design eliminates huge production downtime losses caused by pipeline shutdown maintenance, which is extremely critical for continuous chemical production and long-distance natural gas transmission pipelines. The external sealing components adopt high-temperature, pressure-resistant fluorine rubber packing to prevent medium leakage during probe stretching movement.
The transducer cable outlet is equipped with a sealed shielded connector, matched with GE original signal cables such as PWO6J8-4S. Multi-layer copper braided shielding inside the probe wire suppresses electromagnetic interference from field compressors, frequency converters and high-voltage power distribution equipment, maintaining stable signal transmission in complex industrial electromagnetic environments. The overall structure meets industrial explosion-proof matching requirements and can be used in Zone 1 and Zone 2 hazardous gas areas with matched intrinsic safety barriers and ATEX certification support.
Applicable pipe materials cover carbon steel, stainless steel and alloy steel pipes with wide pipe diameter coverage. Measurable gas media include natural gas, flare waste gas, nitrogen, hydrogen, combustion supporting air and other industrial common gases. Compared with clamp-on gas probes, insertion USL-42 directly contacts the gas medium, less affected by pipeline wall fouling and pipeline vibration, with higher measurement precision and long-term data stability.
Each USL-42 transducer undergoes ultrasonic performance testing, pressure tightness inspection and aging screening before factory delivery, with complete test records traceable to standard calibration sources. There are no wearable moving parts inside the sensing wafer unit. Daily maintenance only needs regular inspection of sealing tightness, probe surface dust accumulation and cable integrity. It greatly reduces the overall operation and maintenance cost of factory gas monitoring and flare gas emission metering systems, widely used in refineries, chemical plants, gas stations and thermal power plant gas flow balance monitoring projects.
