GE M9LW Clamp-On Ultrasonic Liquid Flow Transducer

GE M9LW is a general-purpose low-frequency clamp-on ultrasonic sensor from GE Panametrics, designed for thick-walled pipes, scaling pipelines and large-diameter liquid pipes, paired with GE full-series flow transmitters to deliver steady ultrasonic signal transmission under harsh field conditions.

Description

GE M9LW belongs to the mainstream M series external clamp-on ultrasonic transducer portfolio for liquid flow measurement. The naming rule defines core characteristics: M represents standard ultrasonic sensor platform, 9 stands for fixed operating frequency parameter, LW denotes long wavelength low-frequency design optimized for thick pipe walls and pipe deposits. This transducer is the core sensing hardware for non-intrusive flow measurement systems, cooperating with XMT868, UTX878, AT868 and UTX100 flow hosts to collect ultrasonic transmit-receive signals for flow velocity calculation.
Its low-frequency piezoelectric crystal element features strong penetration capacity. Conventional high-frequency probes fail to penetrate thick carbon steel pipe walls, internal rust layers and medium scaling, while the M9LW long-wave ultrasonic signal can smoothly pass through heterogeneous pipe structures to acquire complete echo signals, effectively solving unstable readings and signal loss problems in aged industrial piping networks. The built-in acoustic matching layer and damping material are strictly calibrated to match the acoustic impedance of metal pipelines, lowering ultrasonic energy loss during penetration and improving signal-to-noise ratio of feedback waveforms.
The contact face of the transducer uses wear-resistant high-hardness composite material, tolerating long-term extrusion from mounting brackets such as GE P1392 and repeated replacement operations without surface abrasion damage. The probe housing adopts sealed industrial-grade plastic with IP65 protection performance, resisting moisture, pipeline condensate splash and workshop dust contamination. Internal wiring is wrapped with dense copper braided shielding layer plus high-insulation sheath, suppressing electromagnetic interference from on-site inverters, large motors and power cables to prevent flow data jumping and waveform disorder.
It supports a wide range of pipe diameters and pipe wall materials, applicable to carbon steel, stainless steel, cast iron and lined pipelines commonly used in industry. The measured media cover clean circulating water, cooling water, sewage and low-viscosity industrial process liquids. Installation adopts external clamping mode without pipe cutting, drilling or system shutdown, zero medium leakage risk and no pressure loss inside the pipeline, which brings minimal impact to continuous production processes. The unified interface matches original GE signal cables including PWO6J8-4S for plug-and-play wiring deployment on site.
Every GE M9LW transducer undergoes echo amplitude testing, impedance inspection and aging screening before factory shipment to guarantee consistent sensitivity and frequency parameters across batches. There are no consumable moving parts inside the sensor body. Routine maintenance only requires periodic inspection of coupling state, fixture tightness and cable integrity, greatly cutting long-term system maintenance expenditures for factories. Typical application scenarios include municipal water distribution pipes, thermal power circulating water pipelines, chemical plant process water delivery and building energy consumption flow metering.
