NI SCXI‑1160
Description
I. Product Introduction
NI SCXI-1160 is a 16-channel SPDT lockout relay switch module of the SCXI series, used for routing, switching and load control of medium-low level analog/digital signals. It features low on-resistance, low thermal offset, channel isolation, and is suitable for testing and industrial scenarios requiring reliable on-off and signal isolation. The part number is 776572-60. It is currently out of production but still has spare parts and maintenance support available.
II. Model Interpretation
SCXI: Signal Conditioning Extension for Instrumentation, a series of instrument signal conditioning extensions.
1160: A general-purpose relay switch module of the SCXI series, with 16 channels of SPDT lockout relays; the same series includes 1161 as power relays, and 1162/1163 as optically isolated digital I/O.

IV. Interface and Communication Configuration
Front panel: 96-pin DIN connector, compatible with SCXI-1303 shielded terminal block (screw wiring).
Backplane bus: Standard SCXI bus, power supply, control and status reading, supports multi-module cascading and address configuration.
Control and drive: Compatible with NI-SWITCH driver, supports LabVIEW, LabWindows/CVI, C/C++, .NET; can work with NI-DAQmx devices.
Compatibility: Compatible with MIO-16, Lab-PC series and DIO-24/32F/96 DAQ boards.
V. Core Functions
16-channel independent signal routing: SPDT lockout relays, capable of switching analog/digital signals or controlling small power loads, with power-off retention state.
Low-error signal switching: Extremely low on-resistance and thermal offset, suitable for weak signals (such as sensors, thermocouples) for precise routing.
Electrical isolation and anti-interference: Channel-to-channel and channel-to-backplane isolation, blocking ground loops, protecting the rear-end acquisition equipment from high-voltage damage.
Software programmable control: Single-channel independent on-off, supports scanning list and timing control, compatible with automated test sequences.
Multi-module expansion: One chassis can accommodate multiple 1160 modules, expanding to hundreds of channels, building a large-scale switch matrix.
VI. Application Scenarios
Automation test system: Signal multiplexing and matrix scanning in ATE equipment, enabling parallel testing of multiple DUTs.
Data acquisition signal routing: Signal selection and channel expansion for multiple sensors (strain, thermocouples, RTD). Industrial control and load drive: Control relays, solenoid valves, indicator lights, heaters and other small-power devices.
Signal isolation and level conversion: Signal isolation between devices with different ground potentials to eliminate ground loop interference.
Laboratory and research: Switching of experimental conditions, multi-channel signal selection, control of signal paths in precision measurement systems.
VII. Operating and Maintenance Instructions
Operating Instructions
Installation: Disconnect power, insert into the SCXI chassis slot and fix; set module address to avoid conflicts.
Connection: Use SCXI-1303 terminal block, distinguish COM/NO/NC; single-ended grounding of the shielding layer, separate wiring for high voltage and low voltage.
Configuration: Set channel status, scanning rate and timing in NI-SWITCH; pulse trigger switching for closed-relay locking.
Power-on: After correct wiring, turn on the box power, then start the software; prohibit hot plugging to avoid surge damage to contacts.
Maintenance Instructions
Environment: Ventilate and dry, away from strong electromagnetic fields, vibration and high temperatures; humidity 5% - 95% without condensation.
Regular Inspection: Monthly inspection of terminals, connectors and cables, tighten connections, clean dust, prevent oxidation and loosening.
Life Management: Record the number of operations, replace when approaching the lifespan to avoid contact adhesion or poor contact.
Fault Troubleshooting: Check contacts and wiring when there is poor contact; check power supply, grounding and software configuration when there is an erroneous action.
Storage: Disconnect power and remove wires when not in use, clean and store in a cool, dry place, protected from moisture and corrosion.
