NI 9516 belongs to NI C Series motion hardware family for CompactRIO systems, working with NI SoftMotion in LabVIEW. It controls one servo axis and supports dual incremental encoder feedback, which allows master encoder and secondary encoder for dual feedback applications. It integrates on-board processor running PID closed-loop algorithm and spline interpolation to achieve smooth motion profile.

This module uses 15-pin D-Sub connector for servo drive interface, outputting ±10V analog torque/position command, servo enable signal and reading drive fault signal. The 20-pin MDR connector accommodates two incremental encoder channels, +5V encoder power supply, home switch, positive and negative overtravel limit inputs. Digital inputs accept 0–30V signal level. It supports both brushed and brushless servo motors in position and torque control modes. External 19–30V DC power is required for the module and I/O circuits.

Programming and commissioning are implemented by LabVIEW with NI SoftMotion module. Front panel LED indicators display module status, axis fault and encoder activity for fast field troubleshooting. It supports electronic cam, contouring and point-to-point positioning functions.

Built-in protection includes overvoltage protection, ESD protection, watchdog monitoring and overcurrent protection for encoder power supply. IP20 protection grade, operating temperature -40℃ ~ +70℃.
