72870-53

Model: 72870-53 (i.e. 3500/53) Brand: Bently Nevada Category: Electronic Overspeed Detection Module Alternative names: Overspeed Protection Card, Speed Monitoring Module, 3500/53 Overspeed Card

Description

Basic Information

Original American-made 3500 system-specific high-speed speed / overspeed protection card, half-height size, supports hot-swappable power-on; metal reinforced housing, compliant with API 670/612 standards, providing independent three-redundant overspeed protection for key rotating machinery such as steam turbines, gas turbines, compressors, etc., and is the core safety card for unit anti-jumpover accidents.

Function and Positioning

Single-channel speed acquisition, receiving input from eddy current probes / electromagnetic sensors, measuring up to 100,000 RPM ultra-high speed.

Hardware-level overspeed protection, 1ms response, supports 2-out-of-2/2-out-of-3 redundant voting (recommended TMR triple redundancy).

Independent of DCS, hard-wired drive for overspeed trip relay, preventing runaway accidents caused by software failure.

On-board self-diagnosis and testing functions, real-time monitoring of module and sensor status, automatic alarm and isolation in case of faults.

Core Performance Parameters

Input: 1 channel, compatible with 3300 series eddy current probes / electromagnetic sensors, input impedance 20kΩ.

Range: 0–100,000 RPM, accuracy ±0.01%.

Response: 1ms overspeed trip, hard relay output (5A contacts).

Redundancy: Supports TMR triple redundancy configuration, single card failure does not affect protection function.

Power supply: 24V DC, typical power consumption 8W.

Temperature: -20℃ to +60℃, industrial-grade wide temperature design.

Size: 241.3mm × 24.4mm × 241.8mm, half-height card.

Adapting Accessories

3300 series speed probes / electromagnetic sensors, 3500/05 frame, 3500/15 redundant power supply, 3500/25 phase comparator module, overspeed trip relay, dedicated signal cable. Applicable scenarios

The independent overspeed protection for key rotating machinery such as thermal power / nuclear power turbines, gas turbines, large compressors, and generators is the final line of defense for the safe operation of the entire unit.
