General Description

The WOODWARD 5405-818 is a microprocessor‑based digital governor system engineered to start, stop, control and protect industrial steam turbines and turbo‑expanders. It integrates a high‑speed CPU, 64 MB memory, 16 digital inputs and 16 digital outputs, providing comprehensive signal acquisition, logic interlock and actuator drive capability. The controller accepts high‑frequency speed signals and 4–20 mA / 1–5 Vdc analog setpoints, supporting isochronous (zero droop) and droop modes for grid‑parallel or isolated operation. It offers built‑in overspeed protection, speed limiting, startup fuel ramping and fault diagnostics, while communicating via Modbus TCP, Ethernet/IP or PROFIBUS DP to DCS and other Woodward controllers (e.g., 505/505E/Atlas). The unit operates on 24 VDC ±10% power, fits standard cabinet rail mounting, and withstands wide temperature and vibration environments.

Main Features

  1. All‑in‑one digital governor system with 16DI / 16DO and 64 MB high‑speed memory

  2. Precision speed/load control: isochronous (zero droop) and droop (load sharing) modes

  3. Speed input: 500–12000 Hz; setpoint input: 4–20 mA / 1–5 Vdc

  4. Multi‑protocol communication: Modbus TCP, Ethernet/IP, PROFIBUS DP

  5. Built‑in overspeed trip, high/low speed limit and startup fuel limiting

  6. Comprehensive fault monitoring, alarm and self‑diagnosis functions

  7. 24 VDC ±10% power supply; operating temperature -10 °C to +60 °C

  8. Compact rail‑mount design; industrial EMC, shock and vibration resistance
