T8448 is a high density triple modular redundant digital output module designed for the Trusted T8000 SIS platform. It provides thirty two independent 24VDC discrete output channels for safety critical applications including ESD, process shutdown and burner management systems. The module adopts 3-2-0 TMR hardware fault tolerant architecture with built in comprehensive channel diagnostics and 1oo2D voting logic. It supports hot swap operation and is suitable for general industrial and hazardous area installation in petrochemical, oil gas and power generation industries.

1. Introduction

T8448 is a high density triple modular redundant digital output module designed for the Trusted T8000 SIS platform. It provides thirty two independent 24VDC discrete output channels for safety critical applications including ESD, process shutdown and burner management systems. The module adopts 3-2-0 TMR hardware fault tolerant architecture with built in comprehensive channel diagnostics and 1oo2D voting logic. It supports hot swap operation and is suitable for general industrial and hazardous area installation in petrochemical, oil gas and power generation industries.

2. Product Overview

T8448 is a single width 6U module compatible with T8100 and T8400 chassis. All output channels are fully galvanically isolated with triple redundant internal circuitry. Each channel is equipped with independent fault detection and status indication. The module integrates over current protection, line fault monitoring and backplane communication interface. It can be configured for group power distribution and supports large quantity of solenoid valves, relays and contactors in safety loops. The module works with dedicated field termination assembly for reliable field wiring and isolation.

3. Mechanical Specification

Standard single width 6U module form factor for Trusted T8000 chassis installation. Overall dimension matches series standard mechanical layout. The module can be inserted into any standard slot of main chassis and expansion chassis. Front panel is fitted with locking screws for anti vibration fixing, LED status indicators and module identification label. Field wiring is implemented through matched FTA termination unit instead of direct front panel connection. Module weight conforms to standard T8000 series module specification.

4. Electrical Specification

Internal system supply voltage ranges from 20VDC to 32VDC with nominal 24VDC operation. External field supply voltage is 18VDC to 32VDC. The module contains thirty two digital output channels arranged into multiple independent power groups. Each channel supports 24VDC load driving with continuous current rating suitable for standard industrial solenoids and relays. All circuits provide 2500VDC galvanic isolation between field side and system backplane, and channel to channel isolation to avoid cross interference. Output state leakage current is kept at low level, with low voltage drop under on load condition. Backplane communication follows Trusted TMR bus protocol with high speed data exchange and fault synchronization.

5. Functional Features

Adopts full TMR triple modular redundant design to achieve 3-2-0 fault tolerant operation. Each channel implements 1oo2D voting mechanism to detect and isolate single point failure automatically. Built in power on self test and periodic background self test during normal running. Comprehensive diagnostics include output open circuit detection, short circuit detection, over load protection and TMR logic mismatch alarm. Sequence of events time stamp resolution reaches 1 millisecond for recording output state change and fault events. The module supports hot swap replacement without system shutdown or safety loop interruption. Output response time meets fast safety shutdown requirement, and each group can be configured independently for power distribution and interlock logic.

6. Environmental Specification

Standard operating temperature range is 0 degree Celsius to plus 60 degree Celsius. Storage temperature ranges from minus 40 degree Celsius to plus 85 degree Celsius. Relative humidity operates from 5 percent to 95 percent non condensing environment. The module complies with industrial vibration and shock standards for process automation equipment. Installation altitude is limited to 2000 meters above sea level. EMC performance meets industrial immunity and emission requirements for safety instrumented system installation. Conformal coated version T8448C is available for harsh environment with wider temperature and anti corrosion capability.

7. Safety and Certification

Designed and certified to IEC 61508 SIL 3 safety integrity level. It holds CE, UL, CSA, ATEX and IECEx approvals for industrial and hazardous area application. TMR architecture eliminates single point failure and maintains safety function under single module slice fault. The probability of dangerous failure per hour fully meets SIL 3 system requirement.

8. Front Panel LED Indication

PWR green indicator remains steady when internal module power supply is normal. RUN green indicator steady for normal operation, flashing during power on self test and initialization process. FAULT red indicator steady lighting represents critical module or channel fault, flashing indicates minor non trip fault condition. COM green indicator flashes continuously when backplane communication is working normally. Channel status LEDs reflect each output channel on state and fault alarm status.

9. Installation and Operation

Insert the module into any vacant slot of T8100 or T8400 chassis, push firmly until backplane connector fully engages. Fasten front panel locking screws with standard industrial torque. Field wiring is connected to matched field termination assembly according to power group and channel definition. Use standard stranded control cable and follow screen grounding and hazardous area wiring regulations. The module supports hot swap function, allowing faulty unit to be replaced online without stopping SIS operation. After power up the module completes self test automatically, synchronizes with system controller and enters normal running state with steady PWR and RUN light, no FAULT alarm and regular COM flashing.
