1. Introduction

The T8314 is a Trusted Fibre TX/RX Unit manufactured by ICS Triplex / Rockwell Automation for the Trusted T8000 Safety Instrumented System (SIS). It converts copper‑based Expander Bus (IMB) signals into single‑mode fibre‑optic signals, enabling long‑distance, high‑reliability communication between the main controller chassis (T8100/T8400) and remote T8300 expander chassis—up to 10 km away.
  • Purpose: Extend TMR Expander Bus over fiber (copper ↔ fibre conversion)

  • Architecture: TMR‑compatible, three independent “Grey Channel” links

  • Safety: Designed for IEC 61508 SIL 3 / SIL 4 systems

  • Max Distance: 10 km (single‑mode fiber)

  • Data Rate: 100 Mbps

2. Product Overview

The T8314 is a compact, DIN‑rail mountable fibre transceiver unit with:
  • Dual 24 V DC diode‑ORed power inputs (redundant power)

  • SC fibre connectors (1 × Tx, 1 × Rx) for single‑mode fiber

  • 100 Mbps fibre/copper signal conversion for Expander Bus

  • TMR‑safe independent channels (three units per TMR link)

  • Low power consumption (max 1.7 W)

It works in pairs: one T8314 at the main controller end (copper → fibre), and one at the remote expander end (fibre → copper). For full TMR safety, three independent T8314 pairs are used (Grey Channel approach)。

6. Installation

6.1 DIN‑Rail Mounting

  1. Clip T8314 onto standard DIN rail (top‑first, then bottom).

  2. Push down until latch clicks (secure).

  3. Mount in a well‑ventilated area (avoid direct sunlight/heat sources).

6.2 Power Wiring

  1. Connect 24 V DC to the PWR terminal block (redundant inputs).

  2. Use 18–22 AWG stranded wire; torque terminals to 0.5–0.6 Nm.

  3. Verify PWR LED is ON after power‑up.

6.3 Copper (IMB) Connection

  1. Connect one end of TC‑301 copper cable to the IMB D‑sub on T8314 rear.

  2. Connect the other end to T8312‑4 / T8312‑7 ODU port.
