Woodward 5461-002 Generator Digital Synchronizer
Woodward 5461-002 is a dedicated microprocessor-based digital synchronizer designed for three-phase AC generator paralleling systems, matched perfectly with Woodward speed governors and automatic voltage regulators (AVR). The module automatically completes frequency, phase angle and voltage matching between generator sets and the grid by outputting analog bias signals and discrete control signals. It delivers stable synchronization bias commands to the turbine governing system and excitation regulation unit, realizing safe, bum-free paralleling for diesel generators, gas turbine generators and steam turbine generator units. Widely deployed in petrochemical captive power plants, waste heat power stations, emergency backup power systems and industrial cogeneration units, it supports local status indication and remote data interaction via serial ports to guarantee safe grid connection of generating equipment.
Description
Produced in accordance with Woodward strict power industry safety specifications and EMC anti-interference standards, the 5461-002 adopts a compact wall-mounted metal casing with excellent mechanical shock and vibration resistance, coping with long-term vibration interference from on-site prime movers, fans and pump assemblies. Internal printed circuit boards are coated with high-temperature, moisture-proof and anti-corrosion conformal coating; internal circuit contacts and external terminal pins are treated with gold-plated antioxidation technology, effectively avoiding signal distortion, poor terminal contact and synchronization failure caused by cabinet dust accumulation, humid ambient air and long-term temperature alternating aging during long-term continuous unattended operation. Multi-layer built-in electromagnetic shielding structure suppresses EMI noise generated by high-voltage distribution cabinets and frequency converters, preventing synchronization hunting and misjudgment of phase detection under complex industrial electromagnetic environments.
The synchronizer is powered by standard 24 VDC power supply with working current controlled within 500mA, operating stably under ambient temperature of 0 °C ~ 60 °C and 95% non-condensing humidity, applicable to both central control room cabinets and on-site local control boxes of generator units. Multiple built-in hardware protection mechanisms cover overvoltage, overcurrent, reverse power connection, voltage sampling loss and frequency signal loss protection functions. Once abnormal sampling signals or internal circuit faults are detected, the module will lock the output into a safe forbidden paralleling state and record fault codes to avoid serious grid impact accidents caused by asynchronous closing. It configures independent RS232 and RS422 dual serial communication interfaces, cooperating with upper computer configuration tools and plant DCS systems to upload synchronization state, voltage difference, frequency difference and phase angle real-time data, and supports parameter remote modification and fault record query.
Indicator lamps and calibration potentiometers are arranged on the front panel for on-site synchronization parameter setting, sensitivity adjustment and real-time working state observation. The embedded high-precision phase lock algorithm automatically tracks grid voltage and generator voltage parameters, outputs proportional PWM low-current driving signals to adjust turbine speed and generator excitation voltage, and automatically locks the closing allowable window when all paralleling conditions are satisfied. Users can configure response gain and dead zone parameters according to different generator capacities and prime mover response characteristics to eliminate overshoot during the paralleling process and realize smooth switching from standalone operation to grid-connected operation. The module supports two signal output modes including analog continuous bias and discrete pulse output, compatible with most mainstream governors and excitation regulators on the market without extra signal conversion accessories.
Every finished 5461-002 synchronizer passes complete factory verification tests including synchronization precision calibration, high-low temperature cyclic aging test, EMC anti-interference test and long-term continuous operation durability test, maintaining ultra-low failure rate throughout the whole service lifecycle. This product is used for new generator paralleling system configuration, replacement of failed original synchronizers and technical upgrading of old manual paralleling loops. Daily maintenance only requires regular dust cleaning on the casing and fastening inspection of wiring terminals without frequent disassembly and calibration. Featuring high-precision phase detection logic, flexible signal output mode and strong system compatibility, Woodward 5461-002 acts as standard paralleling control hardware for industrial generator equipment worldwide, providing solid safety guarantee for grid-connected operation of various power generation units.
