Woodward 5453-754 is a pluggable Ethernet Field Terminal Module developed for MicroNet Plus turbine control systems. It acts as an isolated data gateway between the internal VME backplane of the control chassis and external DCS network. The module transmits real-time operating data such as turbine speed, valve opening and fault codes, and receives remote configuration commands and program downloads from upper computers. Widely deployed on gas turbines, steam turbines and industrial compressors inside thermal power stations, petrochemical captive power plants and waste heat power facilities, it guarantees deterministic and secure network communication for the whole closed-loop turbine control system.
Description
Fabricated under Woodward’s strict power industry reliability specifications, the 5453-754 adopts a compact metal shielded housing with robust mechanical shock and vibration resistance, which can withstand persistent vibration from on-site turbo machinery and pump sets. The internal circuit boards are covered with high-performance conformal coating to resist high temperature, dampness and chemical corrosion inside sealed control cabinets. Both the backplane gold fingers and external RJ45 ports are processed with gold plating to resist oxidation, avoiding communication failures triggered by dust buildup, ambient humidity and long-term cyclic temperature changes during long-term service.
Multi-stage electrical isolation circuits are embedded inside the hardware structure to block surge signals and electromagnetic noise coupled from field Ethernet cables. Such design shields the core MicroNet CPU from EMI disturbance produced by high-voltage power distribution devices and variable frequency drives, preventing network disconnection or system abnormal reset under complicated industrial electromagnetic environments. Powered by standard 24 VDC, the module works reliably at ambient temperatures ranging from 0 °C to 60 °C with non-condensing humidity up to 95%, fitting both central control rooms and local turbine field cabinets. Built-in hardware protection circuits monitor working voltage and link status continuously; it will upload fault logs to the main controller once suffering overvoltage, circuit anomaly or network loss.
The front panel is fitted with standard RJ45 interface supporting 10 Mbps 10Base-T Ethernet transmission. It supports Woodward proprietary GAP communication protocol as well as Modbus TCP/IP, matching shielded twisted cables to strengthen anti-jamming performance. The module completes protocol conversion and data buffering between high-speed backplane bus and external industrial Ethernet, without occupying the operation cycle of the main control unit and affecting turbine regulation precision. Hot-swap function is available during system running, so maintenance staff can replace faulty modules without shutting down the whole unit, greatly improving the continuous operation safety of non-stop critical power equipment.
