Emerson Ovation 5A22411H01 Relay Digital Output Module

The 5A22411H01 is an original plug-in digital output module with relay contacts for Emerson Ovation DCS. H01 stands for its fixed hardware revision and factory pre-calibrated version. It receives logic commands sent from the DPU controller and drives built-in relays to switch on/off passive contact outputs, which directly control field solenoid valves, motor contactors, on-site indicator lights and other actuators. Equipped with coil freewheeling protection, contact arc suppression and surge absorption circuits, this module supports hot-swap online maintenance and features reliable long-term contact operation, excellent EMC performance. It is widely used in thermal power, petrochemical, metallurgy and other process industries for discrete equipment control and interlock output.

Description

1. Overview

This module adopts standard rack plug-in mechanical structure compatible with universal Ovation control rack backplanes. It converts internal backplane bus control instructions into physical relay contact signals. Each output channel is electrically isolated independently, avoiding on-site power circuit high voltage reverse feed and ground loop interference from damaging the DCS internal control circuit. Every module undergoes strict factory aging test, relay pull-in/release cycle test and load calibration to guarantee stable long-term switching performance. It serves as the core execution unit for sequence control and safety interlock logic of the automation system.

2. Core Functional Features

2.1 Channel Independent Electrical Isolation

Each relay channel separates the internal control coil circuit and the field load contact circuit completely. External abnormal voltage and interference cannot penetrate the rack backplane and DPU controller, greatly improving system safety.

2.2 Built-in Multi-level Protection Circuits

Integrated freewheeling diodes for relay coils, contact arc absorption components and transient surge suppression circuits. It eliminates reverse electromotive force when the coil is de-energized and restricts electric arcs at contact breaking moment, extending relay service life and lowering on-site fault rate.

2.3 Configurable Contact Logic

Supports normally open (NO) / normally closed (NC) contact configuration. The passive contact output can directly drive low-power field equipment without intermediate relays, simplifying field secondary wiring design.

2.4 Hot-Swap Maintenance Capability

Online hot swapping is supported during normal DCS running status. Replacing the module will not change the output status of other channels or interrupt critical safety interlock actions of the whole cabinet.

2.5 Comprehensive Onboard Self-Diagnosis

Real-time detection of relay coil open circuit, module internal power failure and backplane communication timeout. Fault codes and alarm signals are uploaded to the Ovation operator station remotely; front panel LEDs provide local visual status indication for quick troubleshooting.

2.6 High Native Compatibility

Fully compatible with full series Ovation DPUs and standard I/O racks. No additional adapter boards or backplane modification is required during installation, applicable for new project construction and spare part replacement of old unit revamping.
