1. Overview
Designed with standard plug-in structure compatible with universal Ovation control rack backplanes, this module receives serial data from field analyzers, local PLCs, auxiliary controllers and intelligent instruments, converts external serial protocols into the Ovation internal backplane bus protocol and forwards valid data to the DPU. Meanwhile, it distributes control commands issued by the main controller to external serial devices. Every module passes strict factory burn-in aging tests and high-precision communication calibration to guarantee reliable long-distance serial link operation. Redundant installation eliminates single-point communication failure risks and ensures continuous non-stop automated production.
2. Core Functional Features
2.1 9 Independent Isolated Serial Channels
The suffix -9 stands for 9 physically separated serial channels preset by the factory with unified pin assignment and wiring specifications. Each channel works independently without crosstalk, simplifying standardized cabinet wiring, unified spare parts inventory management and rapid on-site replacement work.
2.2 Multi Serial Protocol Conversion
It supports mainstream industrial serial protocols including Modbus RTU, RS485 and RS232, enabling seamless data interconnection between the Ovation DCS and online analytical instruments, flow computers, local small PLCs and auxiliary monitoring subsystems.
2.3 Channel Galvanic Isolation & Anti-interference Design
Each serial channel is equipped with dedicated isolation circuits to eliminate ground potential difference and ground loop interference caused by long field cables. Built-in surge absorption components effectively resist instantaneous voltage spikes and complex electromagnetic noise inside plant electronic control rooms.
2.4 Hot-swap & Bumpless Redundant Switchover
Online hot swapping is available during normal DCS operation; maintenance replacement will not disrupt existing serial communication links and closed-loop control loops. Dual-card hot standby configuration performs automatic bumpless switchover once the active module fails, bringing no disturbance to field actuators and production processes.
2.5 Full Onboard Real-time Self-diagnosis
The module continuously monitors channel disconnection, communication timeout, short circuit, internal power supply abnormality and backplane bus communication errors. Fault codes and alarm messages are uploaded remotely to the Ovation operator workstation for centralized monitoring, while front panel LED indicators provide local intuitive status prompts for fast on-site troubleshooting.
2.6 Excellent Native Compatibility
Fully compatible with full series Ovation DPUs and standard I/O modules. No additional adapter boards or backplane modification are required for installation, suitable for both new project construction and spare part replacement for legacy unit renovation.
