A6824 | EPRO(Emerson) AMS6500 Modbus Rack Interface Communication Module

Product Introduction A6824 is core rack communication gateway card of AMS6500 turbomachine protection system under Emerson EPRO, API670 compliant, hot-swappable 3U single-slot design. It collects all measurement data, alarm status from full slots of A6110/A6120/A6210/A6410 monitoring boards inside rack, converts internal backplane bus data into Modbus TCP/IP + Modbus RTU dual protocol to upload to DCS/SCADA/DeltaV/Ovation host system; meanwhile supplies power for local on-rack display panel of monitoring cabinet. Variant model A6824-R (4TE width) supports redundant backup for IMR6500 rack, standard A6824 is 6TE width for IMR6000 series rack without redundant function.

Description

Part Code Definition

A6824:6TE standard single-width communication interface for IMR6000 series 19-inch rack, non-redundant;

A6824-R:4TE narrow-width redundant interface for IMR6500 rack, dual-card hot standby optional.

Technical Specifications

Backplane power: -26.7VDC from rack backplane, max power consumption ≤5W

Communication interface: RJ45 Ethernet(10BaseT Modbus TCP/IP) + terminal RS485(Modbus RTU serial), default TCP IP:192.168.255.1, subnet mask 255.255.255.0

Data acquisition: Poll all AMS6500 slot modules, upload vibration/displacement/expansion/valve position, alarm/trip status, sensor fault codes, configurable data refresh period 10ms~10s

Isolation: 1500VAC isolation between communication port and internal backplane bus

Ambient parameter: Operating 0℃~+65℃, storage -30℃~+85℃, 5%~95%RH non-condensing

Dimension:3HE×6TE(30×128.4×160mm), net weight≈0.32kg

Self-diagnosis: Auto detect module power, overheat, backplane bus failure, communication link fault with LED alarm indication

Interface & Communication Layout

Front panel: RJ45 Ethernet socket, RS485 terminal wiring port; POWER/RUN/COM status indicator LED; module extraction pull tab

Rear golden finger: Dedicated AMS6500 backplane bus, full-data interaction with all monitoring cards in cabinet rack

Rear terminal block: RS485 Modbus RTU A/B signal terminals, auxiliary power terminal for local cabinet display screen power supply

Core Functions

Rack centralized data gathering: Real-time read all channel measurement value, threshold alarm, sensor break fault from every AMS6500 monitoring module in frame

Dual-protocol data conversion: Simultaneous or selective output Modbus TCP and RTU data to upper DCS/PLC, realize turbomachine protection data centralized monitoring in control room

Local display power supply: Provide working power for rack-mounted onsite LCD display to check real-time machine parameters locally without upper computer

System fault forwarding: Upload module self-check fault, rack bus abnormal, communication interruption information to upper host via Modbus; online hot swap replacement without rack power cut, whole cabinet monitoring keeps running normally

Application Scenarios

Thermal power steam turbine, gas turbine, petrochemical centrifugal compressor AMS6500 protection cabinet data networking; transformation of old unit monitoring system Modbus signal access; spare replacement of original cabinet communication gateway module.

Operation & Maintenance Notes

Install into designated empty slot of IMR6000/IMR6500 rack only; set Modbus IP, baud rate, polling address via front configuration software before commissioning; separate Ethernet/RS485 communication cable from high-voltage power cable to avoid EMI communication dropout; regular inspect front COM running LED and DCS communication online status, clean rear golden finger dust during annual overhaul.
