Description
Product Description
45C554 is a remote I/O interface and communication module developed by Reliance Electric, now part of Rockwell Automation, for AutoMax and AutoMate series systems. It facilitates data transmission between Shark series processors and remote I/O systems to realize distributed automation control. This model has been discontinued. Currently, only used units, refurbished products and new old stock are available for the maintenance and part replacement of legacy systems.
Model Number Interpretation
45C is the unified prefix for I/O modules of AutoMate 45C series. 554 is the part number for remote I/O interface and communication modules. It is also known as ABB 57C554 and 0-57554-1, and these models are fully interchangeable. Modules marked with suffix A, B or C are hardware revised versions, which can be directly replaced with each other.
Technical Specifications
Module Type: Remote I/O interface and communication module.Processor Interface: Compatible with Shark backplane bus, equipped with microprocessor and timing buffer circuit.Logic Power Supply: +5 VDC supplied by the backplane.I/O Network Power Supply: Regulated +24 VDC from external rack.Communication Protocol: Supports AutoMax remote I/O link and is compatible with R-Net protocol.Isolation: Galvanic isolation between I/O side and logic side.Indicators: Onboard LED indicators for power, communication and fault status.Power Dissipation: Approximately 3 to 5 watts.Dimensions: Standard single slot for 45C series rack.Weight: Approximately 0.3 kg.Operating Temperature: 0°C to 55°C.Operating Humidity: 10% to 90% RH, non-condensing.Certifications: UL and CE certified.
Interface and Communication Configuration
The rear edge connector fits 45C1 standard I/O rail. The field side is equipped with terminal blocks for remote I/O network connection, including +24 VDC terminal, ground terminal and communication line terminals. It connects to AutoMate PLC or AutoMax master station via R-Net network. There is no independent programming port. All addresses and operating parameters are configured through the master station.
Core Functions
It acts as a bridge to exchange data between master station and remote I/O stations and extend the control range of the system. It completes timing and signal conversion between backplane bus and remote I/O network. Galvanic isolation design effectively suppresses on-site electromagnetic interference and protects the main control unit. Built-in status indicators help staff quickly judge operating conditions and locate faults. It supports dual-module redundant configuration to improve overall system reliability.
Application Scenarios
It is used for replacement and daily maintenance of faulty remote I/O interface modules in legacy AutoMax and AutoMate control systems. It applies to distributed control occasions such as multi-rack production lines and remote I/O links. It is widely used for renovation of old production lines in metallurgy, papermaking, water treatment, automotive and other industries. It matches Reliance Shark processors, 45C series I/O modules and R-Net network systems.
Usage and Maintenance Instructions
Always cut off the rack power before installation or removal. Insert the module into the rail steadily and fix it securely. Complete wiring according to terminal definitions and tighten all terminals to avoid poor contact. Set I/O addresses and related parameters on the master station after wiring. The module will automatically establish communication after power-on. Check LED indicators regularly during daily operation. Clean dust on the module every month and keep it away from strong interference sources such as frequency converters and motors. If all indicators stay off, check the 5 V backplane power supply and 24 V external power supply. In case of communication interruption, inspect wiring, terminal resistors and master station configuration. Hot swapping and unauthorized disassembly of the module are prohibited. Disconnect the power supply and take moisture and dust prevention measures when the equipment is shut down for a long time.
