Description
Product Description
45C42 is a dual 15VDC digital input module designed for Reliance Electric (now Rockwell Automation) AutoMate 40E and AutoMax PLC systems. It connects field devices such as pushbuttons, limit switches and proximity sensors, and converts external 15VDC signals into logic signals for the PLC backplane. This product has been discontinued. Currently only used parts, refurbished units and new old stock are available for maintenance and replacement of legacy automation systems.
Model Number Interpretation
45C is the unified prefix for I/O modules of the AutoMate 45C series. 42 represents a dual 15VDC input module. The standard version has no letter suffix. Models marked with suffix A, B or C are hardware revised versions, and all versions are fully interchangeable.
Technical Specifications
Module Type: Dual isolated digital input module. Channels: 2 mutually independent isolated channels. Rated Input Voltage: 15VDC. Turn-on Threshold: Minimum 11VDC. Turn-off Threshold: Maximum 4VDC. Input Impedance: Approximately 5.6 kΩ. Isolation Voltage: 2500V RMS between field side and logic side. Indicator: One status LED for each channel, which lights up when the input is activated. Bus Interface: 45C dedicated I/O backplane bus. Power Dissipation: 0.15W per channel, total power consumption no more than 0.4W. Installation: Occupies one standard slot of 45C series rack. Weight: Approximately 0.14 kg. Operating Temperature: 0°C to 55°C. Operating Humidity: 10% to 90% RH, non-condensing. Certification: Compliant with UL and CE standards.
Interface and Communication Configuration
Two channel status LEDs are arranged on the front panel to indicate the working status of each circuit. The rear edge connector is compatible with 45C1 standard I/O rail. For field wiring, connect switching devices between the 15V positive terminal and module input terminal, and connect the common terminal to system ground. The module has no independent communication port. It transmits data with the main controller through the rack backplane bus, and no additional address or parameter configuration is required.
Core Functions
It acquires 15VDC level signals and matches sensors and switching devices with the same voltage rating. The built-in optical isolation circuit provides 2500V electrical isolation to suppress on-site interference and protect internal PLC circuits. The two channels operate independently, so the failure of one channel will not affect the other. LED indicators clearly display the on-off status of signals for convenient on-site commissioning and troubleshooting. Featuring low power consumption, it is applicable to scenarios with dense I/O layout. It is fully hardware and program compatible with legacy modules of the same series, so no wiring or program modification is needed after replacement.
Application Scenarios
It is used for replacement of faulty modules and routine maintenance of AutoMate 40E and AutoMax legacy control systems. It collects signals from 15VDC powered sensors, pushbuttons and limit switches. It applies to renovation projects of old production lines in automotive, metallurgy, papermaking, water treatment and other industries while keeping the original 15V signal circuits. It is suitable for dual digital input working conditions that require high electrical isolation and low power consumption.
Usage and Maintenance Instructions
Cut off the total power of the rack before installation or removal. Hot plug and unplug is strictly prohibited. Align the module with the rail slot, insert it steadily and fix it firmly. Complete field wiring according to terminal definitions and tighten terminals to avoid poor contact. After power is supplied, the module works normally, and the corresponding channel LED lights up when a signal is input. Check the operating status of LEDs regularly in daily use, and inspect circuits and front-end devices timely once abnormalities are found. Clean dust on the module and rail with dry compressed air every month. Keep the operating environment well ventilated and dry, and stay away from strong electromagnetic interference sources. If the input LED does not light up, check the 15V power supply, wiring circuits and front-end switching devices in sequence. If the LED keeps lighting up, troubleshoot circuit short circuits or stuck devices. Optimize grounding or use shielded cables to resolve false signal triggering. Always cut off power during maintenance operations and do not disassemble the module without authorization. Disconnect the power supply and take moisture and dust prevention measures when the equipment is shut down for a long time.
