Description

Product Description

The 14C13U belongs to the MinPak Plus series developed by Reliance Electric, now part of Rockwell Automation. It is a single-phase non-regenerative DC drive with rated power of 5 HP, designed to control speed and torque of shunt wound DC motors. Featuring compact structure and sealed enclosure, this drive performs steadily in general industrial conditions. It is a discontinued legacy product, and refurbished and surplus units are widely adopted for equipment maintenance and part replacement.

Model Definition

14 represents the MinPak Plus single-phase DC drive series. C stands for DC motor control unit. 13 refers to the power specification and circuit configuration for 5 HP rating. U indicates the standard non-regenerative version without regenerative braking function.

Technical Specifications

The drive accepts single-phase 230 VAC input with voltage tolerance of plus and minus ten percent, working frequency at 50 Hz and 60 Hz. The maximum input current is 35 amperes. The armature output provides 180 VDC and 25 amperes continuous current. The field output supplies 200 VDC and 3 amperes continuous current. It matches DC motors of 5 HP. It supports armature voltage regulation and closed-loop speed regulation with tachometer feedback. Built-in protection functions include overcurrent protection, overvoltage protection and thermal protection. The enclosure meets NEMA 4/12 standard for dust and water resistance. The operating ambient temperature ranges from 0 degrees Celsius to 55 degrees Celsius, and relative humidity is 5 percent to 95 percent without condensation. The overall weight is about 12.7 kilograms.

Interface and Communication Configuration

It is equipped with dedicated terminals for AC power input, DC armature connection, DC field connection and protective grounding. Additional control terminals are reserved for start and stop signals, forward and reverse commands, external speed reference and tachometer feedback signals. It adopts analog feedback mode to collect speed and current signals for internal regulation. There is no built-in network communication port, and all control is realized through hard wiring. The unit supports wall mounting and panel mounting, and the casing can be disassembled for installation inside large control cabinets.

Core Functions

It realizes stable speed control by means of closed-loop feedback, and maintains constant rotating speed even under changing load. It applies non-regenerative working mode for one-quadrant operation, and can be equipped with optional dynamic braking components to achieve rapid stop. Multiple protection mechanisms can effectively prevent damage to the drive and motor caused by overload, overheating and abnormal voltage. The sealed enclosure adapts to industrial sites with dust and water splashing. It is compatible with various optional functional accessories to expand application performance according to actual demands.

Application Scenarios

It is mainly used for supporting 5 HP DC motors in traditional industrial production equipment. It is applicable to ordinary conveying equipment, general machine tools, lathes and drilling machines that require accurate speed control. It serves as replacement parts for renovation and maintenance of old DC drive systems. It can work reliably in factory workshops with dust and occasional water splashing.

Usage and Maintenance Instructions

Usage

Install the unit vertically on a firm wall or panel, and reserve enough space around for heat dissipation. Connect power lines, motor lines and control lines strictly according to terminal marks, and complete reliable grounding. Adjust relevant parameters such as speed and current limit through onboard potentiometers. After wiring and setting, perform jog test to check motor rotation direction, then test running status under load. Do not operate the drive under long-term overload condition during formal use.

Maintenance

Carry out comprehensive inspection every three to six months to check the appearance, casing seal, wiring and terminals. Cut off all power before cleaning, and remove surface dust with dry cloth, never use liquid or chemical cleaning agents. Retighten all wiring terminals every year to avoid poor contact. Keep the heat dissipation area unobstructed and clean dust on the heat sink regularly. This product contains static sensitive circuit boards, so do not disassemble and repair without permission. Store spare products in cool, dry and dust-free environment. All maintenance work shall be completed by professional technicians.
