Matching Base Backplane for B&R 7DI138.70 Digital Input Module

7DI138.70 belongs to B&R System 2003 rack-mounted slave I/O module, it does not come with an independent separate small base board; the unified installation carrier is the 7BP series DIN rail backplane (main rack base plate) of the System 2003 platform. All 7CP CPU, 7DI digital input, 7D0 digital output, 7CX communication, 7DI counter modules share the same 7BP standard backplane mechanical and bus interface.

Description

Matching Base Backplane for B&R 7DI138.70 Digital Input Module

1. Matching Backplane Series Overview

Full compatible 7BP backplane models

  • 7BP701.1: Short backplane, limited slots for small cabinet

  • 7BP702.0 / 7BP703.0: Medium-size standard rack backplanes, most widely used

  • 7BP704.0, 7BP707.0, 7BP708.0, 7BP709.0: Long multi-slot backplanes for multi-module expansion

    All 7BP backplanes adopt uniform System 2003 internal differential bus gold-plated connectors, fully mechanically and electrically matched with 7DI138.70, no adapter or transition base needed.

2. Backplane Structure & Installation Matching

  1. Slot layout rule

    The first slot of any 7BP backplane is dedicated master position for 7CP series CPU (e.g.7CP774.60-1,7CP770.60-1). All remaining empty slots are universal slave slots, 7DI138.70 can be inserted freely into any slave slot, plug-and-play for bus communication.

  2. Mounting method

    7BP base backplane snaps onto standard 35mm DIN rail first; then 7DI138.70 is horizontally pushed into the backplane slot until fully seated, the bottom elastic buckle locks the module to the backplane and DIN rail as one assembly.

  3. Protection & material

    Backplane substrate is reinforced flame-retardant PCB with insulated plastic frame, IP20 protection, only for sealed indoor electrical cabinets; gold-plated bus pins provide stable low-resistance connection against vibration and oxidation.

3. Electrical Matching Performance

  1. Power supply transmission: The 7BP backplane distributes 24VDC logic power from rack power supply to every plugged module (including 7DI138.70), voltage tolerance 18–30VDC consistent with module specs.

  2. Bus signal transmission: Proprietary System 2003 differential backplane bus runs through the 7BP base board, realizes bidirectional data exchange between 7DI138.70 and rack master CPU, built-in distributed EMC filtering on backplane layout to suppress cabinet interference from servos/inverters.

  3. Isolation design: Backplane internal bus circuit has basic isolation layout; the galvanic isolation between 7DI138.70 field DI signal and backplane bus is implemented inside the 7DI module itself, the base backplane only undertakes bus routing and power distribution.

4. Auxiliary Supporting Parts for Backplane Assembly

  1. 7AC020.9 blank slot baffle

    Must cover unused empty slave slots on 7BP backplane; stabilizes bus impedance, prevents dust/debris corroding gold pins, ensures consistent EMC performance for the whole rack.

  2. System 2003 dedicated 24VDC rack power supply

    Mounted separately beside the 7BP backplane, provides total power for backplane + CPU + all I/O modules including 7DI138.70.

  3. DIN rail accessories: End stoppers to lock the whole 7BP backplane assembly against sliding on the rail.

5. Assembly Sequence for Backplane + 7DI138.70

  1. Fix 7BP base backplane firmly on 35mm DIN rail inside control cabinet; install rack power supply at designated position;

  2. Insert 7CP master CPU into slot 1 of the backplane and lock buckle;

  3. Insert 7DI138.70 into any free slave slot behind the CPU, press down bottom snap lock to secure;

  4. Cover unoccupied slots with 7AC020.9 baffles;

  5. Wire field 24VDC sensor signals to front terminal of 7DI138.70;

  6. Power on rack power supply, configure hardware mapping in B&R Automation Studio to recognize the 7DI module on backplane bus.

6. Important Notes

  1. There is no special exclusive small base board only for 7DI138.70; all System 2003 I/O modules share universal 7BP rack backplane architecture, no model-specific transition bases.

  2. Cannot mix with backplanes of later B&R platforms (X20, X67); mechanical size and bus protocol are completely incompatible, will cause communication failure or hardware burnout.

  3. Authentic original 7BP backplanes are also Made in Austria, supplied with factory test certificates together with imported I/O modules like 7DI138.70.
