RELIANCE 78469-R heavy-duty ultrahigh current DC main contactor

78469-R is heavy-duty ultrahigh current DC main contactor from Reliance Electric 78469 product series, produced as matching spare component for large horsepower legacy Reliance DC variable speed drives under Baldor and ABB inheritance system. This revised version adopts upgraded arc extinguishing chamber and fully epoxy encapsulated coil assembly, used for armature main circuit switching inside high-power drive cabinet and installed between SCR rectifier output bus and DC motor armature terminals to undertake frequent heavy load breaking operation in harsh industrial environments.

Description

1.Product Overview

78469-R is heavy-duty ultrahigh current DC main contactor from Reliance Electric 78469 product series, produced as matching spare component for large horsepower legacy Reliance DC variable speed drives under Baldor and ABB inheritance system. This revised version adopts upgraded arc extinguishing chamber and fully epoxy encapsulated coil assembly, used for armature main circuit switching inside high-power drive cabinet and installed between SCR rectifier output bus and DC motor armature terminals to undertake frequent heavy load breaking operation in harsh industrial environments.

2.Model Definition

78469 is fixed base part number for super large frame high-current DC contactor product family with unified outer dimension and mounting specification for all variants. R represents factory revised optimized edition, consistent with current grade parameter of 78469-1R, short-form marking omits intermediate digital code, featuring improved internal contact structure and enhanced anti-ablation design compared with original standard non-revision model.

3.Technical Specifications

Maximum rated working voltage of main contact is 600VDC. Rated continuous DC carrying current reaches 535A, instantaneous starting peak inrush current can hit 1380A. Default control coil rated voltage is 120VDC with allowable voltage fluctuation ±10%. Matched drive power range covers 250HP to 500HP heavy-frame Reliance DC drives. Continuous operating ambient temperature ranges from -25℃ to +72℃, transient overload peak temperature limits at +86℃. Dielectric withstand voltage between control coil and high-current main terminals is 2200VAC for one minute, protection grade IP20 for cabinet built-in installation. Overall dimension is L508mm×W355.6mm×H355.6mm and single unit net weight is approximately 18.6kg.

4.Interface and Communication Configuration

Ultra heavy-load main power terminals adopt thick solid copper bolt lugs for rigid fastening connection with drive internal DC positive and negative busbar, polarity identification is molded on terminal base. Two-core pre-wired coil control leads connect directly to DC control output terminals of drive mainboard, built-in freewheeling diode inside coil shell to absorb reverse electromotive force when coil powers off. Multiple groups of normally open and normally closed auxiliary contact terminals are reserved on side housing for safety interlock and operating signal feedback wiring of drive system. No RS485 or fieldbus digital communication ports are equipped, dedicated test terminals are reserved for field multimeter inspection during maintenance.

5.Core Functions

Completes reliable closing and breaking control of ultrahigh current DC armature main circuit according to control excitation signal from main control board. Once overcurrent, overvoltage or overheat protection of drive is activated, the contactor rapidly cuts off main DC power to avoid burnout of front-end SCR rectifier module and rear-end high power DC motor. Revised arc extinction structure effectively suppresses electric arc generated during high current switching and reduces surface ablation loss of main copper contacts. Epoxy sealed coil strengthens vibration resistance and prevents coil winding open circuit caused by long-term equipment vibration. Auxiliary contacts transmit on-off state signal to drive logic loop to realize interlock protection and prevent mistaken power-on under equipment fault status.

6.Application Scenarios

Mainly matched with large Reliance DC drives applied in steel mill primary rolling transmission equipment, oversized papermaking main drying roller drive, mine long-distance main ore conveyor dragging system, large chemical extrusion host drive and cement rotary kiln core auxiliary transmission control cabinet. Widely used as replacement spare for aged contactor during old heavy-duty drive maintenance and production line automation upgrading projects of chemical, metallurgy and building materials industries.

7.Operation and Maintenance Instructions

Cut off complete three-phase input power of matched drive and coil control DC power before disassembly, wiring modification and regular inspection to prevent high voltage electric shock and component permanent damage. Check main contact surface for arc erosion pits and fastening bolt tightness every three months, inspect aging and cracking conditions of coil outgoing wire insulation simultaneously. Clear accumulated carbon powder and industrial dust inside arc extinguishing cavity by dry oil-free compressed air periodically to maintain normal arc extinguishing performance. Replace the whole contactor immediately if coil pull-in failure, main contact welding adhesion or frequent abnormal protection tripping occurs during equipment running. Store idle spare products in constant temperature dry warehouse with ambient humidity below 60 percent and keep away from corrosive gas and violent mechanical collision.
