RELIANCE 57C442 dedicated DH+ communication gateway module

57C442 is a dedicated DH+ communication gateway module designed for Reliance AutoMax distributed control system. It works as a protocol conversion bridge between the proprietary AutoMax backplane bus and Allen-Bradley Data Highway Plus fieldbus, enabling real-time data exchange between AutoMax CPU modules and AB DH+ network devices including AB PLC and remote field control units. The module adopts standard plug-in structure compatible with AutoMax system rack slots, and multiple modules can be installed inside one rack to expand multi-channel DH+ networking capability. Original mass production has been terminated, and the product is mostly available as replacement spare parts for legacy equipment renovation projects.

Description

Product Introduction

Model Definition

57C is the unified series coding for all plug-in functional modules of Reliance AutoMax control platform. 442 stands for exclusive part number assigned to DH+ bus interface card. If alphabet suffix such as A or B is marked behind the model number, it indicates revised hardware edition with upgraded circuit layout, enhanced surge protection and improved anti-interference performance compared to original base version.

Technical Specifications

The module receives rated 5VDC power supply directly from rack backplane with allowable input voltage ranging from 4.75VDC to 5.25VDC and typical operating current around 650mA. It is equipped with onboard 8MHz core processing chip and 32KB dual-port cache memory for temporary storage of cross-protocol transmission data. The DH+ bus works at fixed 57.6Kbps baud rate and supports up to 32 network nodes on a single bus trunk. Normal working ambient temperature ranges from 0 degree Celsius to 55 degree Celsius, storage temperature spans minus 25 degree Celsius to 70 degree Celsius, applicable relative humidity keeps between 5 percent and 95 percent under non-condensing environment. Onboard watchdog circuit and hardware self-check circuit are integrated to monitor real-time operating status and respond to abnormal internal faults promptly. Full industrial EMC filtering design helps resist electromagnetic disturbance from on-site large motors and frequency conversion equipment.

Interface and Communication Configuration

Rear gold finger connector connects with AutoMax dedicated internal backplane bus to complete high-speed data interaction with rack main processors and local I/O modules. Front panel is fitted with dedicated wiring terminals for shielded twisted-pair DH+ bus cable access, alongside status indicator LED and small digital display to show module running state and corresponding fault codes. The module natively supports standard Allen-Bradley DH+ peer-to-peer communication protocol, and it can complete automatic address mapping between AutoMax internal register space and AB PLC data file addresses to realize transparent data read and write across different control platforms.

Core Functions

It completes bidirectional protocol conversion between AutoMax proprietary backplane bus and DH+ fieldbus. It uploads field collection data and equipment operating parameters from AutoMax control system to DH+ network, while converting downlink remote control commands sent by external AB PLC into recognizable bus signals for AutoMax main processor execution. It supports cross-node data sharing and interlock signal transmission among all devices connected on the same DH+ bus. The module continuously monitors bus operating condition automatically, sets internal fault flag and protects cached data once bus open circuit, short circuit or node offline failure occurs to avoid unexpected data loss. It also allows remote online parameter adjustment and program debugging for AutoMax controllers via upper monitoring hosts connected on DH+ network.

Application Scenarios

The module is mainly used for network reconstruction of legacy AutoMax control cabinets on metallurgical rolling production lines, bulk solid material conveying equipment and auxiliary process control cabinets in chemical workshops to realize interconnection between Reliance control units and Rockwell AB DH+ network. It is widely applied in centralized control upgrading of pump and fan groups inside water treatment plants, as well as automation renovation of traditional textile machinery, printing equipment and industrial heating furnace control systems for accessing existing factory DH+ distributed monitoring network.

Operation and Maintenance Instructions

Cut off total power supply of the whole rack before installation, check circuit board for bent pins, fallen components or surface corrosion, insert the module into specified empty slot and lock front fixing buckle firmly to avoid poor contact caused by long-term equipment vibration. Complete DH+ station address configuration after installation and carry out short-period no-load communication test with external AB PLC to confirm stable data transmission before formal system operation. Perform regular maintenance under power-off state, remove accumulated dust on module surface and wiring terminals by blowing with dry compressed air. Hot plug and unplug operation is strictly prohibited when rack remains powered on to prevent backplane short circuit damage. If abnormal indicator flashing or frequent bus disconnection happens continuously, isolate equipment power and deliver the module to professional maintenance personnel for circuit inspection, unauthorized disassembly of original sealed circuit is not allowed.
