3. Key Functions

3.1 LCD Drive & System Display

Drives the XRC front-panel LCD to display real-time system data: robot mode (Auto/Manual/Teach), servo on/off status, alarm/error codes (with messages), program execution status, I/O port states, and system parameters.

3.2 Keypad & Operator Input Processing

Scans, debounces, and processes signals from front-panel pushbuttons and mode switches. Transmits user commands (start/stop, jog, alarm reset, E-stop acknowledgment) to the main CPU for local operation.

3.3 Status LED Indication

Onboard and front-panel LEDs provide visual status: power present, system run, alarm/fault active, communication activity, and servo ready.

3.4 CPU Communication Bridge

Acts as an interface between the user panel and XRC main CPU: sends user inputs to the CPU and receives display/status data to update the LCD and LEDs.

4. Compatibility & Installation

4.1 Compatibility

  • Exclusively compatible with Motoman XRC series robot controllers.

  • Not compatible with NX100, NXC100, DX100/DX200, or Yasnac CNC systems.

4.2 Installation Steps

  1. Power off the XRC controller and wait ≥5 minutes for capacitor discharge (prevents electric shock).

  2. Wear an ESD wristband connected to a grounded metal surface (avoids static damage).

  3. Insert JANCD-SP17B into the designated backplane slot; ensure edge connectors are fully seated.

  4. Secure the board with mounting screws.

  5. Connect the LCD cable to the 20-pin LCD port; connect the keypad/LED harness to the 12-pin header.

  6. Power on the controller and verify: LCD initializes, LEDs light correctly, and buttons respond.

5. Maintenance & Safety

5.1 Routine Maintenance (Every 3 Months)

  • Inspect cables/connectors for looseness, dust, or oxidation.

  • Clean the board surface with a dry, lint-free cloth only (no liquids/solvents).

  • Check for physical damage (cracks, burnt components).

5.2 Critical Safety Rules

  • ESD Protection: Always ground yourself when handling the board (static damages ICs).

  • Power Safety: Disconnect all power before removal/inspection/maintenance.

  • Qualified Personnel: Installation/service must be done by trained technicians familiar with XRC systems.

6. Troubleshooting

6.1 LCD No Display

  • Causes: Loose LCD cable, poor backplane connection, faulty LCD module.

  • Fix: Power off, reseat cables/board; test LCD module if issue persists.

6.2 Buttons/Panel Unresponsive

  • Causes: Disconnected/damaged keypad harness, faulty switches, board trace damage.

  • Fix: Power off, verify harness continuity; inspect switches and board traces.

6.3 All LEDs Off

  • Causes: Abnormal 5 VDC supply, faulty board power circuit.

  • Fix: Check backplane power output; inspect board power connector/circuitry.

6.4 Board Not Recognized by CPU

  • Causes: Improper insertion, dirty/oxidized edge connectors, bus fault.

  • Fix: Power off, remove/reinstall board; clean edge connectors with dry cloth.
