JANCD‑MM05

JANCD‑MM05 is a high‑density non‑volatile memory board designed by Yaskawa Electric for legacy YASNAC CNC and Motoman robot controller systems. As an upgraded high‑capacity model in the JANCD‑MM series, it replaces or expands lower‑capacity boards such as the JANCD‑MM01, MM02, and MM03. It provides expanded storage for user programs, motion parameters, and system data, supporting larger and more complex automation applications. Target systems include early YASNAC J50, i60, i70 series CNC and Motoman XRC, MRC robot controllers. The product is discontinued by the original manufacturer and is available only as a used, refurbished, or stock spare part for maintenance purposes.

Description

1. General Description

2. Specifications

  • Model: JANCD‑MM05

  • Manufacturer: Yaskawa Electric

  • Type: Non‑volatile program and parameter memory expansion board

  • Storage Media: High‑capacity EPROM/Flash array with permanent data retention without power

  • Storage Capacity: Larger than JANCD‑MM02/MM03, enabling storage of extensive CNC programs, robot job programs, multi‑axis parameters, I/O configurations, tool offsets, system logs, and backup data

  • Core Functions: Stores system firmware, user applications, motion parameters, I/O assignments, tool compensation, and fault logs; supports system boot, data backup and restore, and offline program migration between compatible controllers

  • Hardware Interface: Proprietary parallel‑bus edge connector for direct insertion into the controller backplane slot

  • Power Supply: 5 VDC from the controller backplane; low power consumption, no external supply required

  • Operating Temperature: 0 °C to +55 °C

  • Storage Temperature: −20 °C to +70 °C

  • Humidity: 5% RH to 95% RH, non‑condensing

  • Mounting: Standard 3U slot installation, secured by two screws for vibration resistance

  • Weight: Approximately 0.6 kg

  • Compatibility: YASNAC J50/i60/i70 CNC series, Motoman XRC/MRC robot controllers; not compatible with DX series or newer systems

  • Product Status: Discontinued; available only as maintenance spare parts

  • Reliability: Equipped with anti‑static and surge protection circuits for long‑term industrial operation

3. Installation and Replacement

  1. Power Off and Lockout: Shut down the controller and disconnect all AC and DC power sources to avoid electric shock or equipment damage.

  2. Locate Slot: Identify an available standard 3U slot in the controller rack.

  3. Insert Board: Align the edge connector with the slot and insert firmly until fully seated.

  4. Secure Board: Fasten the board with two mounting screws to prevent vibration‑induced loosening.

  5. Power On and Recognition: Reconnect power; the system automatically detects and initializes the memory board.

  6. Load Data: After recognition, load system software or restore backups via the controller menu.

4. Backup and Restore

  • Backup: Use the teach pendant (robot systems) or CNC operation menu to save programs, parameters, and logs to JANCD‑MM05.

  • Restore: Boot directly from the memory board or select “Restore from Memory Board” in the menu to recover data.

  • Best Practice: Maintain redundant backups—one on‑board and one on external USB storage—to prevent data loss.

5. Safety and Handling Precautions

  • ESD Protection: Always wear a grounded anti‑static wrist strap when handling the board to prevent static damage.

  • No Hot Plugging: Do not insert or remove the board while power is on; this may damage the board or controller.

  • Environmental Care: Avoid exposure to static, moisture, dust, and physical impact. Store in a dry, clean environment when not in use.

  • No Unauthorized Modification: Do not open, modify, or repair the board; tampering voids warranty and may cause failure.

  • Ventilation: Keep controller ventilation areas unobstructed. Clean dust annually to ensure proper heat dissipation.

6. Compatibility Statement

JANCD‑MM05 is compatible exclusively with Yaskawa YASNAC J50/i60/i70 CNC systems and Motoman XRC/MRC robot controllers. It is not compatible with newer Yaskawa platforms such as DX series robots, i80/i90 CNC systems, or non‑Yaskawa equipment.

7. Difference from JANCD‑MM02

  • JANCD‑MM02: Standard capacity, intended for small‑to‑medium user programs and basic parameter sets.

  • JANCD‑MM05: High‑capacity variant, supporting larger programs, expanded parameter storage, and longer‑term data logging; pin‑compatible and directly interchangeable with MM02 for easy upgrade or replacement.
